Dear Diary,

Upside: I have time to read and catch up and post today.
Downside: I have time because I am seriously underemployed again.

Quit my FT job. I've still got the PT one, but it won't pay the rent. Details about why I quit later, but suffice to say I stood up for myself against unacceptably unprofessional treatment, and I am quite proud of myself. Wish it hadn't happened quite the way it did, because I didn't have time to land a new FT job. Sometimes we can't control these things, and perhaps it will turn out for the best.

Finally received health insurance info two days before leaving, and it's a reimbursement plan, not a normal co-pay plan, and not a lot of doctors even accept it, so it was of no help to my physical or mental health. But hey, at least I have time now to research doctors who work on a sliding scale!

In other news, Brian is badly hurt. He fell down some stairs, at work, a week and a half ago. He will eventually walk again, and maybe he'll even graduate from a wheelchair to crutches within a couple weeks. He spent three nights in the hospital last week, and I spent two of those with him. A friend of ours took over the third night, saying I was clearly exhausted and needed to spend a night at home before bringing him home to care for. She was right.

On top of caring for him, I was still working both jobs, and I went in to work every day but the first day following the injury. I was/am so tired.

Workers' comp is paying for his treatment, and eventually will be paying us a very small amount of money to replace his lost pay. Unfortunately, we are having a hard time finding a doctor with whom to follow up who a) takes workers' comp and b) will accept a patient who has already received treatment in a hospital from another doctor. The doctor in the hospital doesn't take workers' comp, and didn't seem to think that Brian's injuries were even interesting enough for him. He usually only sees patients with bones sticking out, he said. Apparently a level three sprain (completely torn ligament, fortunately in this case apparently not requiring surgery) and some torn muscle tissue in the opposite leg accompanied by internal bleeding are not glamourous enough for him.

I would like just a little stability in my life, now, please.

And we are so glad that you took the day off so that we can see you. Now, go do something unusual. Don't waste the play time.

The dishes are nearly done. A couple of beds are made up for company. There are potatoes boiling on the stove, so I can make home fries for Martin on Sunday morning - he is the hungriest kid I've ever met. The dogs are getting lots of extra play time. I'm waiting for a rainstorm to come and go, so I can run out and get some more provisions for Martin.

Tomorrow, we're going to the fair! I am so excited. I love going on the rides, and looking for treasures in the MarketPlace and going to the Horse Pavillion and having waffle ice cream and hot pretzels and getting henna tattoos ... and and and ... ohhhhhh, and the fireworks!

and Sunday night we will meet cavfancier, BoGoWo and Wenchilina. The camera is going to get a serious work out this weekend!

Thanks! It's feels good - I just have to stop some of the insanity around here now that I'm back in the office. Tired as can be when I get home I just want a power nap before dinner - that sound screwy or what LOL

Dear Diary - i am very puzzled why some people are allowed to post links to their vacation pix here, and others are not.

Because some were posting them on sites they do not own and others were posting them on their own site and spamming (e.g. today the guy posted his links over 10 times).

In case it's unclear the disclaimer is quite explicitL:

so any of the sites using advertising shouldn't be linked to?

(i p.m'd the moderator account about this - as i was looking in FAQ and couldn't find the info)

It's quite clear in the Terms of Use beth. It is not whether there is advertising or not. It's simply that I'm not willing to pay for the resources for others to promote their sites. The rules are clear and in big bold letters it says not to post links to your own site.

The guy you are talking about posted it over 10 times. He was not here to share anything other than his link.

P.S. the FAQ is not the place to look for policy. It's pretty much just technical. Read the TOS for policy.

So I was looking in the wrong place for the info.

The way I understand the link you gave - it talked about advertising. I wanted to make sure I understood before the get-together on Sunday. If we're not to use Grove Street or Yahoo, we probably can't use MSN either, which rules out littlek's site, right?

Sorry I didn't understand I was breaking the rules - seems a little strict - IMO - so linking to MSN or a group is ok? I'm just dense i guess.

If you own the site don't post it. Yes, it's intentionally strict.'The volume of spam posted here is quite large and the members rarely ever see it as it's pulled quickly. It takes a lot of work to maintain that and people who own sites are usually quite inconsiderate about using other people's sites to promote their own. It is not permitted and this is in the TOS.

Beth, you questions are answered in the TOS.

I've read it three times now, craven. It specifically refers to advertising being a no-no. That means we shouldn't be linking to littlek's site. There's advertising on each page there. The same way there's advertising at Yahoo and Grove Street.

So I'll just email pix to the people who come out on Sunday. Like I said, I wanted to know before Sunday as I don't want to post links that shouldn't be here. It's not a problem, but it was a question.

Fine, I'll translate:

Terms of Use wrote:
The Topics shall be used only in a non-promotional manner.

e.g. the newbie who joined and posted his link over 10 times was using the forum for 'promotional' purposes.

Terms of Use wrote:
Promotional postings are not limited to commercial promotions and all are equally forbidden. You may not post links to your site or use Able2Know for promotional purposes (both commercial and non-commercial).

It has nothing to do with what's on the other site. It has to do with not using ABLE2KNOW to promote another site.

What passes for using this site to promote another site is determined by the discretion of those who pay for it, tend it and actually care about it. This makes sense because those who would use it for promotional purposes clearly have a different criteria and standard.

Beth, go ahead and post your photos. The links removed today were posted by people who:

Joined the site and posted their links over 10 times in multiple threads, use their profile as an advertisement for their hosting, have posted their links everywhere (including posting their home pages on "great website" threads) and have generally been much more inclined to slip a promo for their site on these boards.

It's an incessant battle against spam. I am not worried about links you post that much beth. That is not the case with others who have shown a far greater inclination to spam these boards.

So I understand - this is where you also classify me? My photosite - is just that (a hobby site) - with hopes of someday being more maybe - but I'm gunna need a lot of help. I'm not making money on any hosting - I do it at cost and nearly all the sites I host are non-profit, hobby sites, or friends and I cannot profit in those types of circumstances, you should also know I don't talk about it very much.

husker,

It has nothing to do with what is on the site. It has to do with using THIS site to promote them. Linking to your own site is not allowed. It's stated clearly in the TOS and criteria such as whether someone is making money or not from their site is not important. It doesn't matter if it is a hobby site, commercial site if it has ads or not.
