Thanks Sozobe. In editing I seem to have lost the picture. Oops!
Newsy postings! B. and I are now in the San Antonio, TX area, West on highway 90, at an Air Force retirement center. Very neat place. Attractive. Interneting on my sister-in-law's computer. Husk, hope today is better.
Thanks you guys!! Things are looking up - now remember this is very rough!!
Remember it is not complete yet
Awesome site Husker, thanks for sharing:)
Dear Diary,
Typing on a computer in Lemesa, TX, just below Lubbock. What a change from Georgia, yesterday we drove through semi-arid/desert areas. Dry, dry, dry...bushes, bush-like trees in sandy dull setting. Our friends are people folks, in the ministry. They focus on individuals, community and how to make life better for A L L involved, not the bareness and ghost town appearance. Two days before, we were at Air Force retirement complex, neat, thing and rank centered. What a contrast!
Wow Husker, great list of informational sites!
Dear Diary,
My wife invited her girlfriends over to see the wedding video and photos. Also of course to exchange the latest gossip. All five are operaters from Coldecom, the beeper service where she worked before we got married. I consider it near slavery. They get one Sunday off every other week and earn a whopping $125 US a month. Not only that but their shifts change every week starting morning, afterrnoon or evening. She served them empanadas, beer and rum. I went for a long walk to give them privacy although all they have to do is talk fast and I won't understand a thing.
Savador came over to repair the two remaining leaks in the roof. There are actually mushrooms growing on the ceiling at the site of one of the leaks.
My wife whacked a small scorpion with her shoe as it emerged from the bathroom. This was bad news for me as I'm acostumed to walking around barefoot through the house. We've seen a couple of centipedes too who I'm told pack a wicked sting almost as bad as the scorpions. Life in the tropics!
Pit,
When I was in the service in Hawaii, each morning we had to turn our boots upside-down and shake out the stinging creatures.
Thanks Pit
feel free to drop in anytime, it's an evolving thing.
Dear Diary,
The limbs of the trees of Lamesa are swaying. With no grand array of factories to color the sky, one gazes upon white, white clouds against a one-color blue.
Yesterday, I spent time observing the rough beauty of a 100,000 acre canyon park. An opportunity to see, feel, touch and smell a million plus years of nature's handiwork, an image I cannot convey.
Hi all-it's been so long since I've posted that I feel almost like a stranger.
Husker, your site is wonderful! Sounds like an exciting time for you.
Pitter, your party sounded like lots of fun. What kind of dancing do Columbians do?
Mapleleaf, your trip to Texas sounded fascinating. Both my parents were from Texas, but I haven't spent much time there.
Hugs to Urs and BigD.
DD,
Since the Florida gathering, I've been back home in Connecticut and in New York to meet with friends and with Ossobuco (she is found mostly on the art forum). She flew out to see museums and galleries, especially two galleries that show artists she will be showing in her gallery in Eureka, CA. It was an exciting and wonderful time for me: first, to meet her after corresponding with her for over a year and to see as much great art as time allowed.
During three days, we went to the Met, of course and the Frick, ending at the Cloisters. In between, we went to some galleries in midtown, on down to Soho and Chelsea, seeing everything from the sublime to the ridiculous.
In a couple of the galleries, I saw two painters who were strikingly talented. Linda Firestien and Emily Eveleth. Both women have unique styles and modes of composition. Firestien has a wicked sense of humor along with a touching compassion as shown in a painting of several women in burkas.
We had dinner in a lovely French restaurant with a maitre d' named Jean Claude, who was very handsome, friendly and helpful. The food was incredible and my desert, a chocolate meringue, was heaven. It was all I could do not to lick the plate!
I'm back now in Florida looking forward to our two sons coming down for a visit in a couple of weeks, then I fly out to Colorado for an annual trip I take to see my brother who has mental retardation. He is doing very well, but I like to see him and spend time with him even though we talk on the phone. I also have cousins and aunts and uncles in CO. Luckily, my trip coincides with the Western gathering planned in Albuqerque for the end of May, so I will get to see Roger again and meet Asherman, Joanne Dorel and Dyslexia, for the first time. There will be others there, but I'm embarrassed to admit I've forgotten their names. All of us are hoping that fbaezer can make it from Mexico City--we're keeping our fingers crossed.
It will be a busy time for me during the month of May, which is just the way I like it.
KP, please send Gautam my best wishes for a quick recovery. I miss him as we all do.
Husk,
Your avatar, is that your picture?
Mapleleaf, this sounds so wonderful. I am sure you are having a fantastic time. I very much enjoy reading this.
Pitter, as always - great reading.
Diane - we missed you. Good to hear from you. You sure are busy these days. And you get to meet more A2K people. Give a hug to Roger for me!
Husker, I will be watching your site. The links are great. About the picture - well, I don't know. You know, I think I like your avatar better :-) Oh I know - it's not looks that count! It's the inside! Yeah, yeah...
Dear Diary,
I'm pretty busy at the moment so I am writing from work and this will be just a short update. I'll have a long weekend today being my last day at work for this week. So I'll write more soon.
I'm very much enjoying springtime in Balingen - even though it's raining today. But that's good - you can just see the plants growing.
My friend Susan is spending one week at Fuerteventura to get her mind off the married guy she really doesn't want to see anymore but keeps seeing. Gives me nice break, too ;-)
My friend Nicole will be moving into her new place in Kaiserslautern tomorrow - no more sleeping on her ex-husband's sofa. Good for her. She will be picking up her three cats from her old house tomorrow. Oh, I do hope this all works out.
More later :-)
Dear Diary,
I am so excited. Although I no longer consider myself a member of the Christian faith, I do miss the interaction amongst caring people. While in South Georgia, I did partake in the UUA in Tallahassee, Florida. However, Northwest Georgia did not offer me the opportunity to continue my interaction....that is....until now. It seems a discussion group has formed right here in Rome, GA. ALRIGHT!
Dear Diary,
My goodness, no postings since May 3.....we all must be active. Pitter, time for more prose...unless, of course, you have found your way into jail or something. B. and I have been home for 10 days or so; it sure feels good, to get back to a routine and a regular diet. We haven't seen the grandkid for 10 days, so I imagine my wife will be finding a reason to visit him. I'm beginning to get the same way. Next vacation is Seattle/Vancouver...end of August, first of Sept.
I thought about the same thing last night at about 11:15pm
Dear Diary,
I don't really know whether I was too active to write. Seems to me I was too lazy.
Well, anyway - here I am now. Life was not too exciting lately, which is fine with me. I spent a very nice evening last night at La Pergola with a couple of friends. They had life music. We had a wonderful meal and talked a lot. After that we went to Semma's Bar for a drink. I was so tired around 2 am that I went home and left Stefan there with his friend Brian. I don't really know when he came home but we overslept this morning, of course. I woke up when the church bells rang at 11 am. That's when Stefan was supposed to be at the restaurant ;-)
So now the weekend is almost over. Pretty soon I will go downstairs and get dinner ready. My favourite spring dinner - asparagus, potatoes, serrano ham, white wine. Nisse and Mysan love the ham :-)
