Liquor may be quicker
Print that for your sticker
But for the taste that lingers
It's Butterfingers

Once I honored saints and saintly heroes
With veneration, heartfelt and sincere.
Now I'm inclined to honor simpler folk
Who manage to survive with grace and cheer.

Genesis tells a story
Love, war and glory
Before the tale of truth
Honor goes to Ruth

People get easy and simple confused
One is meant, but the other's used
Like loving our brother, The golden rule,
forgive and forget, and
don't suffer fools...

All simple things, sure
but try them and see
that simple sure as heck
ain't easy

This is my lifetime's passage
marked by afters and befores
Like a long and narrow hallway
lined with closed and unmarked doors.

Behind this one, crisp Septembers,
new school shoes and starched plaid dresses
Behind that one, one sad June,
and fate's cruel but sure caresses.

Each will open to reveal a moment
of love, bliss or regret,
Comfort's found in the sure knowledge
there are more to open yet.

Snow
Snow, snow, please go away
why not come back another day
such as August when it's sizzling dry
when snow would cool the hot air sky

diapers are the binding cloth of the generations
in all their forms and general variations
swaddling young and old alike
as they go toddling down a long and treacherous pike

pomegranate
pomegranate, pomegranates
rubies of the fruits of life
glistening in a porcelain bowl
a Ceylon ruby mine below

gophers ate the peanuts i planted

i went on my knees devastated
faith in nature shaken and jarred

jaguar
A Porsche and a Jaguar met at a used car lot
and began flirting with each other in a sexy plot.
Their engines reved to produce something fetal,
in nine months out popped a sweet little Beetle.

the popcorn's in the bowl
the creatures start the show
there we sit hand in hand
in the back center row

we chew fast and hard
as the ones who are starred
jump from dire to direst scene
popcorn gone the ending's marred

Clint Eastwood may be Dirty Harry
but don't mistake by being wary
of his great director talent
off his horse as cowboy gallant.

He was a mute
In a seersucker suit
Playing bass
With his eyes closed tight
He was the scream
In a young girl's dream
Drifting out over the night
He was a fool
At home and at school
He couldn't get it right
He never spoke
No question
No joke
No words with which to fight

calibration
Science is dependent on accurate calibration
without matrix and vector goofs if you're careful and wise.
Getting it right is cause for a big celebration
if you're lucky, maybe even a Pulitzer Prize.
