@Lily,
(Hey lily, ain't we s'posed to actually use the word in the poem? Just sayin'...)

A lovely face and supple limb will thrill…
It is thus, and ever was
But time and truth unerringly reveal
Beauty truly is as beauty does

As for what lasts, and will sustain
What’s fair to the eye will recede
But the kind of pretty that glows, grows and remains
Is all that will quench a soul’s need

This is from Seed's OP

Quote:
So how about this. Someone gives a word and the next person that comes along gives a poem about said word, or has the word in the poem.

I vote for Lily being within the "rules".

(I know you weren't making a big deal, but just for clarity.) Wink

Love your piece, snood!

I stand corrected! (and it's good, 'cause that makes the thread easier to contribute to!)

@snood,
So prepared for disappointment
So prepared to be betrayed.
Very ready for a heartache
All your trust has been mislaid.

If you were to find a haven
From the fear you can't control
Could you let another human
In the boundaries of your soul?

Would you find your feelings frozen
Fossilised by weight of care
Or can you learn to do some loving
And learn to accept your share?

Time to step into the breach and
Fight the good fight of the brave
Or the solitude and anger
Will be all you ever have.

@spikepipsqueak,
Behind prison bars
not able to see the stars
No smell of fresh summer air
only a faint smile to disguise despair

It was a crime you didn't commit
but now you have to pay for it
They've taken away your years
All that's left are tears

Longing, longing for the blue sky
Longing for hope as days go by
Comming home to the ones you love
That's what you thinking of

But really, you just longing for one thing
Just a simple silver lining

(my thoughts goes to all of those who have been wrongfully convicted)

It's in the stillness of the night
that the frog croaks
and its in the stillness of the night
that swarms of stars compete in a marathon
racing toward another galaxy.

And it's in the stillness of the night
that I reach for your hand
and feel comforted.

@Arjuna,
Life became what was left
that day at summer's end
the mist- the moon still and
silent, eluding capture in morning's
pink trail- rising sun red on the horizon,
warming skin and birds in flight
happy, free, but missing you-
September nearly gone.
The first October I'll ever spend
without you looms. Where are you?
You should be here.

Then off for a walk.

@edgarblythe,
Thinking Spring,
But Spring is not mine, this year.
Lacking spring my step is drear
Thinking, must unearth my gear.
As Spring is the harbinger
Of swimming.

@spikepipsqueak,
Toddler on the plane

Her eyes were so sad
she was only just small
wisps of fine cornsilk hair
she wore blue coveralls

She stood in the aisle
her mother said, 'Sit!'
She shook her head, 'No!'
She'd have none of it.

Her way'd not be smooth
I could see bumps ahead
Tears, tantrums, defiance
she'd not easily be led.

The heart of a lion
beat in that slender chest
warrior's blood circulate(d)
within that small breast

She was only just small
with a will firm as stone
and her eyes told the world
she'd live strong and alone.

@George,
Lacking a plane or a boat
Or luxury hotel
I holiday in the damp green recesses
Of a decaying forest
Soothed by running water
In the crevices of the hill.
The commute from there to my work
Is instantaneous.

@spikepipsqueak,
Laying on my back the sky passing by
I look into the heavens for a glimpse of life gone by
Decisions made and outcomes decided in the blink of an eye
As the clouds roll by, time stops but only for a moment
Shaped by the wind, twisted by imagination
The mind fueled by desire for something new and fresh
I lay on my back and watch my life unfold in the passing clouds
Reaching out, shaping what I want, knowing it's but a dream
A smile upon my face, I stand up and walk back to you
You are my clouds, you are my future
Dreams came true the moment you drifted into my life

@Letty,
The trading began
All directions, subtley they ran
First to reach itself around land
Spirited with the sound of a fan

Hands up for sweat to dry
Dearly held in restful lungs
A silent hand gently guides the way
Sails unfurled like rays of the noon sun
