kuvasz--
Nice post, there. I just want to point out that, somehow, my name got attached to snake's quote. It's a little disturbing, as you might imagine, but no big deal just the same.
I'll bet gungasnake is an alright guy, in person. At least I'm sure he can't possibly live up to his online persona.

No need to croak out the entire billion-person slammite population. I'd settle for nuking Mecca and Medina and a worldwide ban on ALL forms of devil worship, including I-slam. 99Percent of present slammites would find some other religion within a week and the other one percent would probably just walk off into the ocean like lemmings or demokkkrats.

Gunga excoriates the Iranian, Ahmadinejad, for his disapproval of Israel yet puts in a solid bid for the destruction, not only of Muslim holy grounds, but their people, and implies conversions should take place.

And you have the balls to post this, suggesting the left is hypocritical:

What Gungasnake did not learn in Mathematics is that the Western world has been exterminating Muslims for their religious beliefs for centuries. Now, that the Muslim world has the technology to strike back, he wishes to destroy them all--Not this time. Bushie will fall before the Crescent does and good riddance!!!

Good for Rosie. I used to be sour on her because of her hypocritical "love" for Tom Cruise. It was obvious that she is gay. What I liked so much about Ellen Degenerous is her courage to come out. Ellen's and now Rosie's success as lesbians speaks SO WELL for our ever-changing culture. In some ways it's in severe decline but in others ways it's growing up.

As I see it, fundamentalism of all sorts is deadly. Islam and Christianity are a decided negative for this atheistic Buddhist, but I only fear their extreme versions.

America will lose its distinctive (democratic) virtue only when, and if, its Christian fundamentalists achieve a political take-over with "Islamo-facisim" as their excuse.
I fear the Islamic fundamentalists because of the piece-meal damage they can cause us (e.g., 9/11), but their service to Christian right-wing, anti-democratic "Americans" as a justification for establishing an authoritarian theocracy is their greatest threat.
Good for Rosie. I'm learning to love lesbians!!!!

You got it.JL Nobody-Perfectly said--The Bushies are a conspiracy of far right fundamentalists who would take away all of our liberties. Rosie O"Donnell and her friends must be protected and allowed to speak the truth!

Interjecting here - I've just been reading along and saw kuvasz' post, so I have to pipe up. I agree we don't see you enough, Kuvasz, I always appreciate your posts.
Am very happy to hear about the dogs coming back.

You are right, JL Nobody, "Islamo-facism" is a preposterous excuse. No one who has lived for a while in the Middle East( as I have) can say that Muslims are not the most generous hospitable people on the planet. They will certainly defend their loved ones when they see that the capitalistic oil barons from the US want their lands but they are otherwise very nice people!

Islam is a religion of Peace. The Christian Extremists Rosie O'Donnell are in power now in DC. If they took over the whole government, gays would be imprisoned, people who believed in Wicca would be jailed, and Blacks would be hurled back into the status of second class citizens. Isn't it obvious when you read the code words of Robertson and Falwell?

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. What have you been smoking??

Sure, atavistic, you must be one of those Southern "sterilizers". Do you remember the black people who were experimented with in the South? Typical of the Bushies. Do you know anything about the Koran? I'll bet you know nothing about it. You have never had the kind of hospitality that the Koran preaches people must accord a stranger. When a stranger tries to hurt their family they strike back!

You're talking about the 85% or whatever it is of muslims who lead halfway rational lives. They'd be better off converting to Christianity.

The problem is that the religion itself when interpreted literally supports the fifteen percent or whatever it is who crash airplanes into other peoples' skyscrapers, blow up trains, blow up busses, blow up cafes, cut off people's heads, rape, pillage, kidnap people, and generally justify the saying that "Islam has bloody borders".

Islam is a religion cobbled together by a bandit chieftain and intended for controlling bandit tribes. The problem is that the world moved past the bandit-tribe model of society several centuries ago.

Really?

Then what the hell is this?

http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/images/places/map-Muslim_World-med.JPG

That doesn't look like anything which has been suffering from repeated exterminations to me at all; it looks more like something which expands radially outwards like a disease.

Oh great, now the A2K left has its own Bernard.

And Gunga, you are sick. The "85% or whatever it is of muslims who lead halfway rational lives [would] be better off converting to Christianity"? Who the hell are you to tell them which religion they should adhere to? Freedom of choice of religion is one of the cornerstone achievements of the same modern-age Western culture you purport to want to defend. And what exactly do you propose to do with the many among those 85% who wont be willing to repudiate their religion?

Actually, a certain percentage will still be looking for some sort of an anti or non honkie establishment sort of religion. For them you'll have voodoo, rastafari, and santeria, but I-slam needs to be banned.

Claiming to be so tolerant as to tolerate people who basically do not tolerate YOU is basically idiotic. The American ideal of religious tolerance did not originally include catholicism, precisely because catholicism did not tolerate other religions at the time and it was only after catholicism changed that it was permitted on these shores.

Interesting to read this, at the turn into the 16th century Spain wanted authority to consider all native americans to be sub-human that that could be used as slaves, the Pope Refused delcairing all native americans to have the same civil rights as anyone else, Spain simply refused the Pope's decree (economic reasons?) Of course, the Pope had his own reasons such as converting the native americans to catholicism, but that's a different issue.

Maryland Toleration Act: 1649

The "Act", if read, does not seem very tolerant...but that's not why I'm mentioning it. The reasons for it's existence, in that Maryland was established by a Catholic, for Catholics, is my point.

Religious tolerance was one of the main driving forces that made migration across the Atlantic attractive...no need for tolerance if you are in the majority to begin with...so the Catholics were nowhere near as eager to come to America as their Puritan counterparts. Around that time, they estimate the entire Catholic population to be only about one percent.

I'll agree, that they were not liked, nor wanted in the other colonies...but they were here, and free to do as they pleased, inside the borders of Maryland.
