You tout Plato, but you cite Plato quoting Socrates. Plato was a gobshite who exploited the death of his friend and mentor to make much of himself, and he espoused the type of society that many here justifiably object to. It is specious to suggest that in so characterizing Plato, I, or anyone else present objects to dialogue. It seems that you only favor dialogue without criticism or refutation of your ex cathedra pronouncements.

I enjoy dialogue, in fact, I enjoy debate, although, personal attacks iced with layers of egoism doesn't thrill me.

When one values ones opinion over others is where I believe the line begins to get crossed.

Attacking one on a personal level to build the value of ones own personal agenda in a matter of politics for the sake of personal pride and ego gratification is vastly infected.

Keegan - THIS was from your opening salvo in this thread:

One of the problems with Liberals/Democrats is that they assume they know what all conservatives think. They also usually argue issues, by countering a question with a question and avoiding topics entirely.

My biggest gripe concerning our legislative body is that they have not passed a law legalizing the public execution of democrats yet.

I think most left wingers/liberals/democrats are a waste of space.

THIS is what you are saying now:

Considering that I have landed among the intelligent and well educated then it would be safe to say that I could expect more dialogue and more open communication.

Now you want open dialogue? Now? Okay, but first, why don't you go away for a few days and contemplate the idea of being accountable for the natural consequences of our own words and actions.
You came in here looking for a flame fight. You got it. Don't go mewling about how you want a more sensible and cerebral exchange now.

So it is ok for Al Franken to use satire in his comedic approach to politics but it is not acceptable for myself to do the same, and to know the difference?

Shall I start defining where the satire stops and starts? Does good ol' Al do that?

Is there a difference between cerebral, satirical, comical, and political?

It seems to me that seems to be part of the debate itself Ralph.

Apart from Keegan being unable to point to a single personal attack made upon him by me (suggesting that you don't want criticism or refutation does not constitute a personal attack--it's an observation, and an unflattering one, but i know of nothing in the tenets of debate which require me to flatter you, or to avoid unflattering assessments)--Snood has hammered the nail in in one blow, as always. Keegan came here flinging invective right and left, and now tries trollish tricks with his * - * style inserts, to laugh at and belittle people. Keegan came looking to pick a fight, projects his own nasty tactics onto to others, and, as Snood rightly points out, begins to cry foul when he has his hateful characterizations demolished by those who have not stooped to his level.

You still claim you're not the former Scipio? -- previously in this thread, you completely ignored me, except on the one occassion upon which i opined that you might be Scipio. I become more ane more convinced . . .

When it suits the liberal persuasion there is a nodding acceptance, on the contrary, it is quite the opposite. That is one of the very reasons that I am glad that I opened with that.

I don't care what any of you say. I still think Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. And O'Reilly is another one.

I have no idea who Scipio is... Ignored because I know nothing of such a name. That makes sense doesn't it?

From what I have observed thus far, there have been no personal attacks made on me.

Setanta, are you suggesting that I am offended?

I believe the name on the screen is Snood. Why don't we start our enlightened debate with having the common courtesy of using the names we've offered each other to use?

You knew you would be attacked huh? So you came in, six-guns ablazin'--no measured and reasonable debate for you, because you already had your quarry lined up in your sites. Pre-emptive debating -- you should contact Too Live Crew down at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they gotta a job for ya . . .

Actually, my point was that you ignored me, except when i mentioned Scipio -- two peas in a pod . . . and you wrote:

Quote:
Attacking one on a personal level to build the value of ones own personal agenda in a matter of politics for the sake of personal pride and ego gratification is vastly infected.

So where is the personal attack to which you refer?

Setanta,

You are beginning to become incoherent and somewhat frazzled in your interpretation of my posts.

I am not sure where you are going with your assumptions, but I think it was said best in the film "Princess Bride", when Wesley said...

"You mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my
sword and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?"

*smile*
