What causes racial hatred: racists or racial friction?

Craven, I'm still waiting for your example where racism has been untaught in any multi-racial nation that exists now, or that has ever existed.

Or name a multi-racial nation where a region is free of racial friction because racism has been untaught.

Common sense: we are tribal, we trust and empathize more with those who are most like us, which includes race, religion, politics, and sexual preference. The antithisis is that we are proned to place less trust in those who are least like us.

Now, that's common sense. Disprove it by giving ONE place where your theory has worked?

I'm still waiting for you to stop asking me for examples to prove points I never made. You make up theories and call them mine.

While I'm waiting please show me one example of a nation without racial hatred.

Of any variety.

Now, let me see; how many races are there, and how many countries are there? Actually, we need to count how many islands are there? I see an immediate problem trying to separate the races. c.i.

I guess we must begin with education and training to get rid of racism. Where do we begin? c.i.

It's about ignorance, pure and simple. It's nothing new to say that for a country of our resources and wealth, we have a corner on ignorance -- and worse: willful ignorance. I don' know and I don' WANNA know...

I didn't say it was an easy place to start, c.i. - I was just saying where I thought the war would be be fought - and I think it's in the minds and hearts of the very young. I've raised two white stepchildren. I know of what I speak.

You believe that racism is not innate to our species but is learned, or is caused by ignorance. Right? Well, then show me the multi-racial country where racism has been untaught?

Since I believe tribalism, racism, is instinctive, that we trust those most like us, and distrust those least like us ... I don't think you could ever have a country that lacked racist instincts. Iceland is free of racially-motivated crimes, but they still have tribal instincts. Right?

Not that JM will understand this article, I still post it for the interests of the others who have been wrapped up in this circular thread:

I think you're confusing racism with the natural instinct to be cautious, untrusting, of those we don't know, JM.

Maybe this quote from the article explains JM...

What causes racial hatred
Of course, ignorance is the Mother of prejudice!! The tendency toward social breakdown which is inherent in the growth of wealth polarisation,is also producing a growth in racism, I believe.Social breakdown leads to the increasingly authoritarian government prompted by the need of the ruling class to contain protest and civil unrest among those at the bottom of the wealth pyramid. In the US those in the lowest economic strata belong mostly to racial minorities. The desire of the more affluent strata to justify their superior economic positions is causing racially based theories of privilege to become more popular.

The simple, yet unobtainable, solution, would be to focus on our likenesses, rather than our differences

Welcome to A2K, Narrowrule!

Nice, you join us here. I do hope, your attention isn't fixed on this thread alone, but you'll enjoy others as well

Yes, the simple solution isn't unfornatelly sometimes more than just a simple answer: "To change and to improve are two different
things." says a German proverb.

cav, I'm not that 'educated,' but I always had the idea we were all related in some form. It all ends up as "family feud" over property. Wink c.i.

I think racism is tribalism. We instinctively group ourselves into tribes based upon people who are most like us, and this applies to race, religion, politics, and sexual preference, etc.

This is instinct. The friction that diversity creates leads us to make these tribal decisions.

Those who think that this isn't an instinct have yet to show, for example, a multi-racial nation that has existed that has successfully untaught racial hatred and was free of racial friction. What area of America has untaught racism?
