Another thread discussing tarbaby.

I hadn't seen this.

Also, a search of the site reveals 7 pages of tarbaby use. A few pages are likley devoted to this thread, but you can see who used it, and what theur meanings were.

Just fyi.

None of that matters, really. African Americans do not TRUST the Republican party.

I agree. I think it's because of all of the above, in addition to some failings of the GOP, which the party seems to be attempting to address.

I'd start by not blaming the other party and coming up with your own concrete solutions. So far, I haven't seen anything that would compel me to think Republicans would address the intrinsic interests of the African American community. What's funny is that I've been hearing for years the tired old mantra that "we, as the Republican party, are doing something about this."

Actually, it's rather quite sad, and not very funny whatsoever...

The main problem is--we don't see things economically as the "majority of the black voting bloc" does.

They don't seem interested in the conservative economic theory, and the party isn't going to change a major aspect of it's underpinnings to attract voters.

Catch-22

The only thing we can do is continue to give positions of vital importance to people in the party, regardless of race.

"conservative economic theory" what a hoot. Along the same line as the old "we support family values" a utter crock of **** totally devoid of meaning.

Then how would you deal with the white, racist elements within your own party which keeps African Americans away? Whatever you deem is important regarding the Republican party and it's ideology doesn't seem to click with the very same minority you wish to attract. My guess is it probably has to do something with results. African Americans only see the richest getting richer, and the wage disparity growing even wider.

Shall we assume that the Democratic Black Caucus is also "brainwashed?"

Regardless of your political opinions, certainly you agree there are different schools of thought on how best to run an economy.

Do you really think because you don't respect the economic mode chosen by the GOP, that it's devoid of meaning? It has meaning--you just don't agree with it.

wrong, it has no intrinsic meaning, it is babble for the masses; I do have a modicum of economic theory in my knowledge base.

By getting rid of them when we find them...?

True.

Blacks aren't the only ones pissed about the CEO salaries. They're ridiculous. But, they also see a pretty good economy with very good opportunity. You judge the US economy against perfection--something that has never been achieved. I judge it against competing world economies--the best of what is possible. I think, realistically, we are doing pretty damn good..

dys--

Why is the conservative economic method babble, and is the liberal economic method also babble?

Dookie--

While we're trying to run the racists out of the GOP--please get rid of your racists and homophobes.

(On second thought, maybe you should keep them. If they all get together and form a party, they'll likely have the plurality.)

snood-- Again, as I'm sure you know, you have your term wrong. You are trying to make fun of me, using my marital status. "Old maid" would denote I had never been married: widow is the appropriate status. Doesn't seem funny to me, but since you have decided to open our insults to deaths in the family, maybe someone you love will die soon enough for me to join you in your latest endeavor.

Keep me posted.

I wasn't referring to your actual situation - which I'm sure I don't know, and don't want to know. But rather I was nodding to the demeanor that comes across here - you'd be an old maid at 20 or 30, married, single divorced or widowed. A hag is as a hag does. And thanks for illustrating that by wishing death on a family member of mine.

Your argument about the "perpetually offended" and the "hapless offender" is daft, and speaks of someone flailing about in attempts to live comfortably within her prejudices. Please continue - it's instructive watching you defend something indefensible to decent people.

That's funny.

You defend use of the word 'tarbaby' yourself in glowing terms. Sorry, but you lose, as always. You gut your own "argument" by saying tarbaby is cute on one thread, and racist on another. You are the very type of person who fakes offense to suit his purposes. I am thankful your hypocrisy is here for posterity.

Snood thinks tarbaby is cute.

If it's so cute, why all the drama??

If it's cute when your buds say it, then your fake whining about others saying it, is clearly illegitimate and purposefully racially divisive.

I see your hag and raise you a mean drunk who beats women. Just a nod to your demeanor that comes across here, and likely accurate.

You really should get off the personal. It never ends well for you.

It was even MORE fun, watching YOU defend it--when dlowan did it--
Thank you for showing your glaring dishonesty so liberally.

If it's indefensible--why the hell are you defending it??

After reading that other thread, I think we need to change 'perpetually offended' to 'perpetually/selectively offended'.

I'm not a Democrat, and I agree that they should get rid of their homophobes as well. But that's not what this thread is about.

At least they can send African Americans to Congress.

How exactly are you "trying" to run racists out of the GOP?

I'm not sure Trent Lott was a racist--but it sent a clear message to the higher ups in the party that he had to go when his remarks seemed to be wistful for the Dixicrat sentiment re Strom Thurmond.

He was unceremoniously capped--and was a leading figure in the party.

Dean still enjoys his status after a disgusting racial slur.

Vital positions have been given to GOPers without racial discrimination.

Two methods, anyway.

We can't find many blacks who will switch to the GOP. They are ostracised in their communities if they do so....sort of like how young black men are treated if they "act white" and make good grades...

It's hard to believe people are treated like that.

Even by Snood who, if I am remembering right, once referred to Republican or conservative black people as 'hanky heads' Smile
