Okay, okay, here goes nada:

Chicago (so tempting to pick SF)
Atlanta
Arizona
Houston
Kansas City
New Orleans
New York Giants (so tempting to pick Tampa Bay; the Giants have spent a lot of time annoying me)
Philadelphia (they can't lose at the last minute a fourth time, can they?)
St. Louis
Pittsburgh
New York Jets
Denver
Dallas
Minnesota (I just typed New England, paused, erased it) - 35

i think philly is a good pick.

mcnabb played well last week -- he passed for 300 yds, and ran for another 75...

Thanks, Cowdoc. I hope that you can take off your boots, put your feet up and relax for the weekend. In fact, I hope all of us can do that. So that leaves only two regular players yet to pick. Let me check and see who they are.

Oh, my! Seems to be Sublime and Kicky. Who would have thought?

There is an old expression, although no one but me seems to have ever heard it, that goes "Great minds lie in the same gutter."
Johnboy, Liontamerx and Cowdoc have made identical picks in this week's games. And that is fine. As we get more players that becomes inevitable. In the tiebreaker we have 37, 35 and 39 respectively.

Here is the dilemma. The rules allow players to change any of their selections up until kickoff of the first game. Fine. But in this case Johnboy with 37 in the tiebreaker is stuck between 35 and 39 by the other two. I would like to change my points for a strategic reason to 34 or 40. The problem is that I am the only one who knows that I am in this box because I am the only one (I assume) who has the complete spread sheet.

Such a terrible moral dilemma. I may not sleep at all. Or I might sleep well. I am switching to 40.

You're probably right. Now that you changed it, it will matter.

It doesn't matter that it doesn't matter, Jo. The gist of my last post could have been "Hey, Sublime and Kicky, get your @#*+$@ picks in!"
When one runs a thread, particularly a trivial thread like this, one has to be part carnival barker; keeping the chatter going. Most of us don't know or care about the NFL all that much. So what draws us here?
I play on-line scrabble. Not for the game and the points but for the opportunity to chat with folks. I am up to 45 countries and 35 U.S. states.

I agree with you. I like the camaraderie, first, and am also learning, or relearning, or unlearning, as the case may be, some of what is going on in football. (Hey, Montana and Clark may try to re do the pass - how can that not end badly..)

I suppose I should try the scrabble thing. I love words, the sequencing of them, the rhythm of them, the sounds of them, the wit of them, well... y'know. But, I'm a total doppus on three letter words made out of consonants (kidding, I think, about the consonants) - words scrabble people all seem to have down cold.

I'm thinking that our point total picks are unlikely to matter. johnboy. And if they do, so what? Also, thanks for your warm wishes. I fully intend to put my feet up tomorrow afternoon, after I get through another couple of hundred cows today, write a nomination for a local community organization tonight, and finish a grant application for one of our local businesses tomorrow. At that point, an easy chair and a glass of bourbon are on the agenda. Hope you can relax too!

We are off and running in Week #8. Johnboy, Liontamer and Cowdoc have identical picks all the way down the 14 games and only differ from the majority in one game (Indy vs Denver). Cjhsa and Chiso also only differ from the rest of us in one game. The bunch of us have low Deviant points this week.

Then there is the other extreme. George out-jespahed Jespay by a few point. Also of note are Osdsp and JPB They have Deviant point totals ranging from the low 30's to George's 54.

I'll see yall in about 3 hours.

It is a beautiful day in the mountains of Virginia. Mild temperature and perhaps half of the trees have gone to gold or rust colored. One more week, perhaps, of Autumn. I spent the afternoon chasing leaves and acorns.

So where are we? Pretty mediocre through the early games. 3-5, 4-4 and 5-3.
Region is the only player to get to 6-2.
And JPB was the only player to pick Jacksonville over Philly.

The late games and the night game on Sunday were not too kind to many oi us. Six players stumbled in at 1 and 4 in the five games. And Tico went 0 for 5.

Tonight we have NE at Minn. George and Region have records of 8-5. They agree on NE winning. George has total points of 26 while Region has 54. The mid-point is 40. A NE win and total points less than 40 gives the week to George. A NE win and total points of more than 40 sends the title to Region

There are 5 of us at 7-6 but all us have NE, except for JPinMilw who picks MN. If MN wins he ends up in a tie with Region and George. JPinMilw has 56 points in the tiebreaker.

I am rooting for JPinMilw because he is the only one of the 3 contenders to have not won a week. We have had no repeat winners yet this season.

In fantasy football, by the way, JPinMilw is crushing me something like 110-50.
See yall tomorrow.
