Thanks for playing, Panzade.
Osso: I just got off the phone with my brother who is visiting his in-laws in Albuquerque. It is getting to be a looong day in a crowded house, with about 12 inches of fresh snow and still coming down. I hope you (and Dys and Diane) are doing okay.

I could've used that snow about a week ago when I was skiing at Ski Santa Fe.

I'm fine and Dys and Diane are too, last I spoke with them, this a.m. BBB lives about a mile away and is busy planning a new year's repast.
Well, we all live fairly close as the crow flies, but the roads don't follow the crow.

Luckily I've got a nice batch of things to cook and cds to play, some letters to answer and some paper work to get into, even have some new books to read from a bookstore foray a friend and I made a few days ago.

I say luckily, since I don't even own a snow shovel and just did my first driving in snow last week, and that was snow sans ice.

The good part is the beauty.

12 inches? Pacco isn't twelve inches...... or is just thereabouts.

It's funny to me, I've been nattering at some friends to send me photos of scenes in snow, since I'm now attracted to painting them but didn't have any photos of my own. Suddenly I do.

Over and out to Football.
I was in a what the hell mood re these choices. May still change my mind re SF and Denver.

Yeh, Tico, your timing was off by a smidge. Hope you had a good holiday anyway, and same to Panz. I had thoughts of moving to Vancouver at one point, but 'tis expensive there and I probably don't qualify visa wise.

For starters, johnboy, it's not possible to psyche out someone who has no brain, as indicated by my picks last week. Secondly, I'm actually psyched for my annual New Year's Eve event, which involves taking over the local radio station to play seven hours of uninterrupted '50's and '60's oldies. We declare KSRA to be off the air as of 6:00 tomorrow night, and replace it until 1:00 in the morning with Radio Free Salmon. All of us are getting too damned old to remember when we started, but we think this will be the twenty-second consecutive New Year's on-the-air party for us. I also have twenty or thirty trivia questions for prizes donated by downtown merchants, so plenty of folks listen in. I also put together a medley with a common theme that is not always obvious. I'll post the playlist on Monday and let y'all figure out the commonality. Meanwhile, our picks for the week are:

COWDOC MS. COWDOC

New York Giants New York Giants
Cincinnati Cincinnati
Dallas Detroit
Houston Houston
Jacksonville Jacksonville
St. Louis Minnesota
New Orleans Carolina
New York Jets New York Jets
Seattle Seattle
New England New England
Baltimore Baltimore
Denver Denver
Indianapolis Miami
Philadelphia Philadelphia
Chicago Chicago
San Diego (45) San Diego (30)

Happy New Year, everybody!

Johnboy, I see the hamster left the spacing out of my post, but I have faith in you to figure out that the second set of names are the picks for Ms. Cowdoc. Have a happy!

Perhaps it is not appropriate to do this, but I will do it anyway.

Chiso and Cowdoc differ on two games this week. If Cowdoc is right on those, there is still no way he can win the season unless the two of them go 2-12 in the remaining games.
If Cowdoc can find one other game to disagree on his chances improve (but only if he goes 3-0 in those games). Then, if he and Chiso go 7-6 (or, diabolically, worse), Cowdoc would win.
There could be a tie, by the way, but only if Cowdoc changes and wins all of his picks and then the two of them go 8-5 in the remaining games.

you'd have to use "Code" to maintain the proper spacing --

Code:COWDOC MS. COWDOC

New York Giants New York Giants
Cincinnati Cincinnati

Ok, in the interest of ... interest, and of competition, I'm changing one of my picks. I'll take the Vikings instead of the Rams. Cowdoc still has time to make other changes.

Speaking of: COWDOC, sounds like a real shindig. Have fun!

RJB - thanks again for commissioning. Maybe in the playoffs point scoring could change? 3 points for first round, 4 for second round, 7 for conference championship picks, etc. Rather than 1 point per, seeing as there are only 11 games left.

!!HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Thanks for your suggestion as to how to structure the play-off thing. I'll talk about that, perhaps, after the early games start.

Cowdoc's New Year's Eve thing sounds like fun. I did a Google search of KSRA Salmon, Idaho. and came up with the webiste for the station (sponsored by the local Tupperware distributor).
It's 20 degrees and cloudy there near the border of Idaho and Montana this morning. Cowdoc's radio show will be competing with Rocky Balboa at the River theatre on the very wide Main Street of Salmon
But the last item in local news (12/26) by Linda Shumate was about a somewhat contentious City Council meeting discussing what to do about the kids riding their skateboards and bicycles on the sidewalks.
There were links to other sites, and they included stunning photos of the geography around Salmon, Idaho. Very beautiful. It looks like a nice place to live.
Cowdoc didn't say whether listener requests were welcome. If so, KSRA's phone # is 208-756-2218 and their fax is 208-756-2098.

We may be setting ourselves up for a fall this week. The 15 of us are unanimous in picking the NY Jets, Baltimore and San Diego to win. 14 of us have Philly and Cincy. And 13 of us have Dallas, Chicago and Denver.

Cjhsa takes the Deviant of the Week award, disagreeing with the majority of us on 7 games (51 points). No one else is even close.
At the other end of the spectrum is Tico, Mr Congeniality, who agrees with the majority on every game. Cowdoc, Chiso, Johnboy and Panzade are in low single digits.
12 games to be decided within about 3 hours.

I'm finally back online after having to rewire my phone. Ms. Cowdoc disconnected the line running to our computer, as she is changing her flower shop to a matting and framing place. Johnboy, requests are indeed welcomed, even if you can't listen to them. Ms. Cowdoc and her sister answer the phones, which ring pretty much constantly with requests and/or trivia question responses. Feel free to give her a call, if you find yourselves so moved. Have a great New Year, y'all!!

The NFL seems to have moved several games from early to late without asking me. Through 10 games, Tico and Ms Cowdoc are at 7-3. The rest of us are clustered at 6-4 down to 4-6. Region is at 3-7.

I hope, cowdoc, you will play some James Brown and, if I were to call in, something by Otis Redding.

Week #17. 16 games to bring the total for the regular season to 256.
And in the final game of the day, and in perhaps the final game of his career, Brett Favre led his Green Bay Packers over the Chicago Bears.
Only Fbaezer and Cjhsa saw it coming.

Congratulations to Tico and Fbaezer for finishing the week at 11-5. Tico wins the week based on the tiebreaker. Cowdoc, Cjhsa, Ms Cowdoc and
Pantalones did well, going 10-6. Johnboy, Panzade, Sublime and Chiso came in at 9-7. Lion, JPB and Jespah broke even at 8-8. Ending up under water for the week was Osso at 7-9 and Region with a stunning record of 6-10. The Best ESPN guy went 12-4 while the Worst dude stumbled in at 7-9.

Fifteen players in Week #17 with George, JPinMilw. Child and Kickycan missing.

Tico's win makes him the 13th different weekly winner. He joins Johnboy, Osso, Lion, Region, Cowdoc, JPinMilw, Cjhsa, and Pantalones as one time winners. George, JPB. Chiso and Kickycan tied for the prize we give for most weekly wins. Two each. Only Fbaezer, Child, Jespah, Sublime, Panzade and Ms Cowdoc failed to win. The last two players joined in towards the end of the season.

*) Best ESPN Picker (161-95) (.629) (2nd)
2) Cowdoc (159-97) (.621) (2nd)
3) Sublime (126-81) (.609) (3rd)
4) JPinMilw (135-89) (.603) (4th)
5) Child (115-77) (.599) (6th)
6) Lion (134-93) (.590) (7th)
7) Osso (150-106) (.586) (8th)
7) Region (150-106) (.586) (5th)
7) Pantalones (150-106) (.586) (9th)
10) Ms Cowdoc (36-28) (.563) (14th)
11) Tico (142-114) (.555) (12th)
11) Fbaezer (142-114) (.555) (12th)
11) Johnboy (142-114) (.555) (10th)
14) Panzade (53-43) (.552) (16th)
15) JPB (137-114) (.546) (11th)
*) Worst ESPN Picker (139-116) (.543) (13th)
16) George (112-96) (.538) (15th)
17) Jespah (129-127) (.504) (17th)
18) Cjhsa (83-86) (.491) (18th)

Congratulations to Chiso for winning the trophy this year. And to Cowdoc for keeping the race so very, very close. And to everyone for playing this game this season

By the way Kickycan (68-38) (.642) went missing on us after week #13. At the time his was second to Chiso (who was at .659 at the time). Chiso dropped .030 in the final 4 weeks, the exact same as Cowdoc.

So the magnificent Golden Jockstrap trophy which lived here in Charlottesville after Year #1 (when we had all of 6 players) before going to Kickycan in New York City after Year #2 (12 players or so) will soon be on its way to Chiso in, I think, Texas. Display it proudly, even if it is related to a shelf in the garage. And, oh yes, Chiso, keep the box so you can send it on to its new owner after Year #4.
