Victory!! Horse Slaughter Bill Defeated in Texas Legislature

Thanks to everyone who wrote, protested, and/or made phone calls about this legislation! The controversial amendment, which sought to decriminalize the activities of two foreign-owned horse slaughter plants operating in Texas, has been defeated. Although this legislation was a Texas state bill, it will affect horses all over the U.S. because Texas is home to the only two horse slaughterhouses in the country. Currently, these slaughterhouses are operating in violation of state law, and H.B. 1324 was the legislature's attempt to allow them to continue to operate illegally.

A statewide voter survey relating to horse slaughter was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research from May 4 through May 6, 2003. The survey revealed that 77 percent of Texans are opposed to changing state law to legalize the slaughter of horses for human consumption. The French-owned Dallas Crown in Kaufman and Belgian-owned Beltex in Fort Worth are now operating illegally and must shut down or face prosecution.

With a strong message of opposition to horse slaughter coming from Texas, the focus now turns to passage of the federal American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (HR 857), currently before the U.S. Congress. This Act would prohibit the slaughter of horses in the U.S. and ensure that American horses are not shipped even greater distances to Canada, Mexico or Japan to be slaughtered for human consumption.

The Lightwizard stumble in after a long hiatus from Lola's Palace (or is it place?), wondering about this reinactment of either "Camille" or "Fellini's Satyricon." Will any of these left over, stale soap opera scripts that haven't been used in the Wizardmobile help? There's been an overabundance of them and the ones gleaned from "Port Charles" have been rejected by the Wizardmobile. It keeps blaring out on its radio, "I only drink vine."

You all had that psychedelic look in your eyes -- like two kaleidoscopes hypnotizing the unwilling visitor. Oh, all right, get out the lubricant. The Wizardmobile hasn't had a lube job in years. Just be careful you don't give the antenna an erection. Well, maybe that would be a good idea -- we can beat SETI contactin alien life forms. Knowing A2Ker's, it would likely be Dick Cheney and Condolezza Rice.

Here, i got some new ****, light this up while i change the music . . .

I can see why you think you belong to me
I never tried to make you think, or let you see one thing for yourself
But now your off with someone else and I'm alone
You see I thought that I might keep you for my own

Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Don't you think the time is right for us to find
All the things we thought weren't proper could be right in time
And can you see
Which way we should turn together or alone
I can never see whats right or what is wrong
(will it take to long to see)

Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Well now
Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Now it's come to what you want you've had your way
And all the things you thought before just faded into gray
And can you see
That I don't know if it's you or if it's me
If it's one of us I'm sure we'll both will see
Won't you look at me and tell me

Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer
Longer if I do

Yeah now
Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Fallin' in and out of love with you
Fallin' in and out of love with you
Don't know what I'm gonna do, I'd keep
Fallin' in and out of love
With you

Lightwizard revs up the Wizardmobile and takes off down the street, attempting to drown on Setanta's pop music with Bartok's "Bluebird's Castle" on the card CD player. It ain't working.

I think LW doesn't appreciate our music. I'll be!

Let's try Cat Stevens for a while...........Father and Son

Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.
It's always been the same, same old story.
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.

Father
It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
if you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy.
(Son-- Away Away Away, I know I have to
Make this decision alone - no)
Son
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them you know not me.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
(Father-- Stay Stay Stay, Why must you go and
make this decision alone?)
