Naughty again: it took her more than half a dozen tries to get the camera "making 'click!' " - but her uncomplaining friend every time took again this ... photogenic position

Old town Albuquerque, to be correct. (I only drove through the modern city, without taking any photos.)

Is there a "real" modern part of Albuquerque, or just suburbs? If it's just suburbs, and if Albuquerque's suburbs are like those in other American cities, you were probably right to save your pixels for worthier motives.

There are a cople of nice art deco fassades, as I noticed. Besides that, it really didn't look as worse as ... Leopoldstrasse Mr. Green

(As for pixels: I've had 4.5 GB  )

We'll come back to that church (the pic above, which is to the right of the church, is the the convent).

Here it is seen from the plaza ... something is going on there, as you might notice.

I didn't actually want to - but since Diane asked for permission, here's now the start of a kind of little photo story:

It's really quite amazing how many idiots we have living here. You can tell they are idiots by the Stetson hats they wear.

The story of Madrid is the story of one Oscar Huber. Madrid was a coal-mining town owned and operated by the Albuquerque and Cerrillos Coal Company. Huber worked for the company beginning in 1910 and became superintendent after a few years then eventually buying the company. Electricity was unavailable to homes as late as 1913. Generated in a company powerhouse, electricity was limited to company uses only. After Huber acquired the company, he paved the streets, built new homes on lots made vacant by fires, constructed a six room hospital and made arrangements for unlimited use of electricity and much, much more. Oscar Huber made Madrid a town proud of itself. Its Christmas display of the nativity and other lighted Biblical scenes created a display the like of which had never before been seen in New Mexico. Thousands of visitors from all parts of the state came each year to view the magnificent pageant through 1941 when the lights were turned on for the last time. Conversion to other than solid fuels took its toll on Madrid as it did on other coal mining towns.

Nowaday´s, you find there lots of galleries, a ciuple of cafés, a coal mine museum .... and it's a Mecca for photographers.

So, please scroll through the now coming couple of photos ...
