Walter has hit the nail on the head.

The consistant and constant conservative creed re: sex is that it is wrong wrong wrong; unless you are doing it exactly the way we say.

Of course, we have right-wing pundits 1) calling a Congresswoman "a wefare drag queen" "a ghetto slut" with "Brillo" hair...2) a rape victim a "ho" and on and on and on. To deny that much of this stems from sexual repression is absurd.

True, but I stated the same thought. The core beliefs of many (not all) rightwingers stems directly from repression.

No, it isn't obvious, Roxxxanne. I would place myself in the democratic camp, but to throw all republicans into one bag is unfair and, well, unrealistic.

Having been in the Republican camp from the age of 21, until I was about 45, I can tell you it is true. The entire religious, conservative, repression, sex is dirty and needs to be controlled, idealsims are to the perverse in nature, and are indeed dark! You take your basic hardass rightwing asswipe, and you had me during that period. The fact that I am so left now, is a total 180 degree turnaround for me, and I owe the enlightment to JayBea who has helped me come out of the dark!!

Oh really?

Conservatives aren't against things like Gay Sex, pre-marital sex, polygamy, polyamory? They don't preach absitnence only education? They don't dislike, say, blowjobs from one's secretary?

They don't freak out when a nipple gets shown on tv? They don't criticize the amount of sex in movies and media?

You should wake up and realize what conservative attitudes towards sex have been displayed over the last twenty years.

And I was brought up Catholic. It is all about guilt, repression and control. Who was it that characterized the righties position on sex as the fear that "somewhere, someone is out there having a little fun." This all holier-than-thou SNL Church Lady superiority is so tyoically Republican, it is astounding that anyone would try to deny it.

Some do. I don't care about any of those things and I'd wager that most conservatives that post here wouldn't either. Your business is your business... what do I care what you do in the bedroom?

To try to paint this as a deep held republican belief is foolish, though. Christian... maybe.

JP, yhou are in complete denial. You haven't refuted a single point, choosing instead to ignore the truth.

If you are so sexually liberated, I suggest you change affiliation and start supporting positions that oppose repression, reproductive rights, marriage equality, full civil rights for LGBTs etc.

It isn't foolish to point out the attitudes and positions that are consistently displayed by the leaders of the Republican party, and then claim that Republicans share those attitudes and positions.

I know that you are a moderate; the Republican party is not. It's foolish of you to think that it is.

Do you really need me to start hunting up quotes? You know I can do it. Do you need me to start finding Republicans defending anti-gay marriage or anti-sodomy laws?

i don't like extremes of any sort. There certainly are conservative values and it is entirely possible that repression plays trick on some of them. Sure, why not. What I object to are gross generalizations and throwing all republicans or all democrats in one bag. And the 'you're wrong, I know the truth, wake up' attitude. Excuse me, but I can judge things for myself, thankyouverymuch.
Both Republicans and Democrats have their own freaks and goofballs, and even if I find the republican ones more repulsive, that doesn't mean I have any monopoly on 'right' and 'wrong' and can decide for others how they should think. Nothing is black and white, there are many decent, normal and sensible republicans. It is so easy to dismiss entire groups - that is the basis of nationalism, racism, religion, any sweeping -ism. What is more difficult is constructive analysis, being able to judge things from many perspectives, trying to place oneself in another's shoes and perhaps consider their perspective and try to understand it before we call anyone a fool. But that is less fun.
