Sierra Song did not exaggerate or use Keillor's age for emphasis.

She simply quoted the part where he said he grew up in the fifties, labelled him "the old fool", and that constituted her entire reason for dismissing everything he said. Period.

It is clear that she is bursting with contempt for that age group. And if there is one person who can be relied upon to come out with the official GOP position on anything, it is most certainly Sierra Song.

Really? I think Sierra and I have gotten along fine. And it's no secret I'm part of that age group. I sure haven't experienced any contempt from her.

So you just exaggerated. You spoke an untruth when applied in all cases. Do you want that held up as a great big deal and thrown in your face for several pages of posts?

Or how about I understand the context in which you made your statement and you understand the context in which she made hers? And by so doing we show both intelligence and maturity.

I rather think that's the way to go here.

kw

Yeah, I think fox is right. Age isn't the essential factor at all. That just provided a typically shallow and irrelevant means to try and discount him. It's the political stance (Bush critical) upon which her head pinwheels. Bush and Keillor are about the same age, after all and she ain't gonna be calling Bush an "old fool" anytime soon. Whether or not Sierra Song has the foggiest as to who Keillor is or why he is important in American letters (or why "American letters" is important, for that matter) isn't at all clear.

And Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry, and most of your other champions also did a lot of their growing up in the 50's. So at least use a brush broad enough to get everybody.

Just following your lead, do I really have to list every notable person who grew up in the 50's? I don't think we have enough room in here.

Besides, if I left out a name, somebody might wind up with hurt feelings.

Rumsfeld is 74 but he, as far as I am aware, has not had a heart attack and stents placed in his heart arteries. If he had, he would be like some who can't think clearly anymore because they do not have sufficient blood going to the brain!!!!

Cyclopitchorn's data is fatally flawed because it does not include income from the following sources:

l. Food Stamps

2. Housing Allowances

3. Earned Income Tax Credits( averages $1,600 per family per year)

No. My intention was to show that nitpicking a person's words and ignoring the member's obvious intent, just because you dislike the member, generally creates a worse error than what the member is accused. And conversely, using a too narrow sample also distorts the reality.

At any rate, Sierra did not apply her single sample to an entire group, but to one individual. I agree with Blatham that the individual is brilliant in his writings on Americana. I agree with Sierra that he is an old fool when it comes to his politics.

Congratulations Dys. You finally almost quoted me correctly as saying that millions of Mexicans have crossed the bornder into the US illegally. I did indeed say that and stand by it. I never said monthly though. She did, but corrected that. And gracious people acknowledge the correction and move on. Nitpickers (or the trolls, idiots, and/or exercises in futility) don't.

She Never coprrecter her statement about millions monthly, she simply reported that she "heard' that somewhere and you defended her statement. She even repeated in BOLD type Yes millions per month.

Well it was different in discussion I had with her. And I certainly did not agree with the monthly number she originally cited, but you said I did. That was a lie.

Nope. But you sure told a lie. A gentleman would acknowledge it and apologize for that too. I'm not holding my breath, however.

I have reconstituted the entire exchange re justwonders/meself and foxfyre and would be delighted to repost that exchange, you're comment "nope" regarding calling me a liar and then stating "but you sure told a lie" is consistent with your inability towards honesty. I suggest you are extremely dishonest re your integrity.

Nothing says loving like documentation. I'd be interested in reading it all while foxfyre does her plugged-ear internal mantra.

You and all people who grew up in the fifties clearly HAVE experienced contempt from Sierra Song, as her post made evident. It matters not a bit that you pretend the statement wasn't insulting to that age group-clearly it was, and it was intended to be.

I'm very sorry, but simply your endorsement of her in no way changes what Sierra Song Song said. Sierra Song chose the context of her statement, simply by limiting her criticism of Keillor's 750 word piece to a short, snide, childish criticism of his age. As if pointing out his age is all that is needed to dispose of his thoughts.

Sierra Song's post not only speaks for itself, but it's brevity and directness make it impossible to sugarcoat, much as you repeatedly try.

Foxfyre wrote:

Why shouldn't she be held responsible for what she posts? We post things here and we examine them. That's how this place works.

This is where you run into problems. Sierra's meaning and context is crystal clear. That is why her statement was so lousy.

While we're at it, here is another snotty quote from Just Wonders along the same lines. Foxfyre was buddies with her as well.

Just Wonders wrote:

Nothing like joking about people's efforts to prevent strokes and heart attacks.

Why, it's a pity that medical science has moved ahead as it has. Think of all the fun Foxfyre's friends could have with polio and pneumonia jokes.
