The events/criteria described in your first post could be said of any time in history.

How old are you? I've been around a long time, long enough to see several generations, and know of many very personal accounts of 2 generations before me. I can see the dots connect they way they have, with the ability to spot mathematical and symbolic patterns that others don't detect.

My education was not ever-so-cleverly infiltrated with radical indoctination and outright partisan censorship of historical textbooks and classroom discussion, as the students have become subjected to in the public schools within the past few decades.

With all due respect, I can apparently see things that you can't. This isn't to say that you are not intelligent. It just means that we're able to do different things.

This is hilarious. She's even quoted herself.

This may be my new tag line: "I can see the dots connect they way they have, with the ability to spot mathematical and symbolic patterns that others don't detect."

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think you may need a little more insight to actual history before you rely totally on your special x-ray vision.

Hey, if that's the best you can do, then dearheart, be my guest.

Oh, by the way, that's "...patterns that others don't usually detect." Go back and look at my post.

If you're going to quote me, you'd better damn well do it right.

Before this becomes completely wasteful of time and space, the reason I entered is that you began your thesis here with a premise you didn't prove.

Throughout history, every generation thinks the new one is headed to hell in a handbasket.

What is any different now? What is going on that is substantially different to the scandals of Elvis' hips, women in pants and working, divorce and Scarlett O'Hara driving her own buggy?

BTW-- LOL-- I used your own copy. If a dildo is going to make a big declarative statement, it had better be sure it didn't write exactly what I said it did.

"It is said that what is called the spirit of an age is something to which we cannot return. That this spirit gradually dissipates is due to the world's coming to an end. For this reason, although one would like to change today's world back to the spirit of one hundred years or more ago, it cannot be done. Thus it is important to make the best out of every generation." -Hagakure

You remind me of the little froggie in the kettle that is laughing away, gleefully, jiggling it's little tummy, giggling and having a merry ol' time mocking others outside of the pot who can see the steam rising.

Go ahead little frog, enjoy yourself. Far be it from me to change your attitude.

Oh, one more thing... thanks for the free advertisement. You'll be like a walking billboard, and I won't even have to pay you for it. Smile

Weird.

But, can you prove your thesis? Why is today different from every other time people have said America is in decline?

I like the last sentence: "...it is important to make the best out of every generation."

I'm not one of those who cry out that the world is about to supposedly end, soon. I am firmly convinced that it is not, although I can understand how some people can think it.

Also, I'm not one of those who are naive to think that things can be the way they were several hundred years ago. Why do that, when you can make things ever better than they were back then?

Why not go for the gold, and take the best from all known spheres of reality, and blend them into a unique tapestry fitting for today?

This is what would be nice to see.

If you want "proof" other than stark reality, my dear, I suggest that you trip on over to the "Science" or "Politics" forum. This is the PHILOSOPHY forum.

Even philosophers have supporting logic.

You don't have anything to make anyone believe you may be correct in your assertion that America is in decline...?

It's just your opinion, then?

PoetSeductress, I thought that quote was very interesting when I read it. It struck a chord in me. I posted it here for it's relevance. It was written a very long time ago. The author was a Samurai.

I'm not here to debate, but to share with those of like minds who contain at least a moderate amount of wisdom to see life from the inside out.

In all fairness, though, I should say that I believe that the world contains a certain amount of positives and a certain amount of negatives. There will always be the same amounts of each. The thing what can be troubling, is the shuffling and positioning of those things. Still, I hold onto an optimistic attitude, while doing what I can to make things better in my own fashion.

If you're into debating, one of the earlier posters might gladly oblige you. I'm not in the mood, right now, for the negativity scene, thank you. I've had enough of it from this earlier afternoon, to hurt a hundred hearts.

Well. Alright. I'd just think if you were so loaded down with wisdom, you'd want to enlighten everyone with your logic.

But, maybe some other time.

Other people here know wisdom, too. I'm not claiming to be the only one. If you would read the other replies, you would see it. Then again, you probably couldn't. If you can't see it now, nothing I can say further would make a difference. What you need, Lash, is time, experience, and more introspection.

If you could, you why not pick up some classic books on philosophy? Don't discount the importance of study.

Why is anyone interested in knowing the reason for the supposed decline, when we are unable even to provide the reason for concluding that America is in decline, at all? We are looking for reasons, right?

I was interested because I have my opinions about this. However there are people among this thread right now I'm not willing to engage on any level with. So I'm just watching and waiting for them to

exit stage right... Arrow
