Hi...I reckon we dodged the bullet. There was a lot of ice but it changed to rain-heavy rain-this morning. All of the digital clocks at my house were blinking this morning and my computer, which I should have disconnected, was on at 6 am. It was displaying a time of 2 pm on May 21, 2002, and there was a page print out of a message that Dlowan had posted last night after I had gone to bed. Wierd.
As I was coming home I saw a pine tree tumble into the road just over the crest of the hill above my house, blocking 1 and a half lanes. It didn't take any lines down. Folks stopped and started directing traffic. A couple of guys got out of a truck, whipped out a chain saw, and within a few minutes we had the debris hauled away. Sweet.
It is supposed to get well below freezing tonight but the precipitation should be gone by then. We hope.

We really skated. Power never even blinked but some ice remains on secondary roads and most of the terteary ones are ready for the Ice Capades.

Just back from shoveling snow, since we got some, even in town
walter : where is the snow, or did you shovel the whole city clean ? we have about a foot (30 cm) on the ground; it's quite solidly frozen and so is the eastern end of lake ontario - within the next two weeks we expect that the icebreaker will start working up the lawrence river from montreal. it's always quite a sight to see the icebreaker swowly crushing a passage through the ice. it's nice and sunny this morning, just around freezing and a good time to go for a walk along the shore of lake ontario. expect lots of people to be out on the ice playing ice-hockey or just going for a walk on the lake (the ice is very smooth this winter). hbg
