Maybe" Frühlingsstimmenwalzer" to lure the spring.
But we had sun 2 days ago=40 more days of winter.
Tough guy, Walter!

I am dreaming of a hot summer!

Hi Walter and urs, I've got some bad news, enough to make a grown man cry. We had some 1983 Leinsweiler Herrlich Beerenauslese that turned into vinegar. snif, snif..... and we had to throw out three bottles of it. So much for saving it for a very special occasion. Do you know how long white wine can be kept? c.i.

c.i.

Sorry about that, but thus you got a really expensive and rare vinegar!

Well, 'beerenauslese', it is said, can be kept "for years and years, depending on the quality".

O dear. Sorry to hear that. Normally they can be kept for many years. Maybe the cork was damaged.
I still have some bottles from 1959. The ones we opened last year were OK. We are going to open the last ones this weekend...

Drink! Drink! Drink!
To eyes that are bright as stars when they're shining on me!
Drink! Drink! Drink!
To lips that are red and sweet as the fruit on the tree!

Here's a hope that those bright eyes will shine
Lovingly, longingly soon into mine!
May those lips that are red and sweet,
Tonight with joy my own lips meet!

Drink! Drink!
Let the toast start!
May young hearts never part!
Drink! Drink! Drink!
Let every true lover salute his sweetheart

hi, c.i., walter and all: i've kept some beerenauslese and other german wines for quite a few years and have always found that they improved with age; i think the flavour develops over time - isn't that what is called BLUME in german(blume = flower). perhaps walter can advise. of course if a bottle has been sitting upright for some time, air has probably gotten into it and you get an expensive vinegar. store wine in a cool area of the house - i simply store the bottles in a cool and dark area of the basement - and store it in such a way that the cork is covered by the wine - that is, at a slant. OH, WINE, WOMEN AND SONG; i'll settle for wine and song, being happily married.

Well, I don't drink since more than 20 years and all my experience is either theoretical or by memory  .

However, I'm rather sure that 'Blume' is the name of the froth/foam on top of a Plis (beer).
[Knowing only Elbschlößchen, Astra or St.Pauli-Bavaria-Pils, hamburger, I can understand that you never heard of that Laughing ]

Still freezing, but no snow here in the city.

You can say Blume, but people prefere Bouquet to describe the aroma you can smell and taste.

hi, ul and walter: i can see that the germans have become a lot more sophisticated since i left germany a loooong time ago! still like a glass of "lieblich" german wine on occasion - just can't get used to a "trocken or dry" wine; give me a nice mosel wine and i don't need any fancy labels. hope it's warming up where you are living; here at the east end of lake ontario - where the lake meets the st. lawrence river - it's still mighty cold. when we left for our morning swim _ not in lake ontario, which is frozen pretty solid- at 8:00 it was still minus 14 and a nice cold breeze was blowing. el nino, where are you when we need you?

hi, ul, walter and c.i.: went to the source www.germanwine.de/lexicon to look for definitions. BLUME(NOSE) refers to "pleasing fragrance when sniffing the wine" - freely translated -; BUKETT(BODY ?) refers to the total EINDRUCK - i guess the full complement of our senses being alerted; or something like it). isn't it wonderful that all this information is available with a few keystrokes? i wonder what the BLUME and BUKETT of c.i.'s rather expensive vinegar is/was? i have noticed that some fancy vinegars(designer labels, i guess) can be as expensive as a fine bottle of wine. maybe c.i. stumbled upon something here!

My wife didn't inform me, but looks like she took a weeks vacation time off from work, so we went out for breakfast a the Original Pancake restaurant in San Jose. They make everything from scratch. The special pancake I had with eggs inside the pancake was very good, but very rich. Brought home 3/4's of it. It was kind of cool this morning, but it's warmed up since, and the weather is just grand. I worked in the garden a short bit, and watered the plants. We also went for a walk at the new shopping area called Santana Row in San Jose. Guess it'll be in the high sixties today. c.i.

It is cold and cloudy again in Texas our spring only lasted three days. Now everyone is getting sick again. But the grass is a little bit greener than just two weeks ago so there is hope. Actually I guess more than hope for Srping since time does not stand still - not even in Texas!
