Hi Rae, We're still below our annual average of rainfall at this time of year, so we gotta wish for more. I'm sure some places are going to have flooding, but that's the price we pay for building in places that should not be built upon. c.i.

Snow! Very pretty- a thin layer over the rooftops, like sugar.

Thanks, Rae. These shoes must be cute. I am wearing either Birkenstock (ugly, but comfortable) or socks with ABS.(anti-skid system)

How nice to have snow, Ul. It makes everything look pretty.

We had wind here yesterday. When I took my dogs walking the wind started up, an odd warm wind from the east. Then the wind switched direction and became so much stronger... gusts of 30+ mph, I later heard. It was great for a while, feeling the wind, but it becomes quickly exhausting. In minutes the rains had started again. It poured and poured. This morning though I can see stars through some gaps in the clouds and it isn't raining... at least for now.

Just broke the bad news to Mom.....Our low tonight is supposed to be 38. Her comment was that she's going back to NY.

It's about 56 now, some clouds, but the sun is winning. Still breezy.

Pueo, we're all happy to see you're okay! We're smiling broadly:) Laughing

Well, I went to bed last night dressed for skiing! NO KIDDING! It was cold!

Tonight, it's clear and mild, chilly, but supposedly warming up tomorrow. AT least it stopped raining.

I feel sorry for our snowbirds who come here this time of year to get warm, and to feel the sun on their bones. They probably think it's warm anyway, why else would they be in the pool on this bitter night?

Yay, Pueo, you're back! I was just reading about the Typhoon in the newspaper. Three people killed, lots more hurt and hundreds who have lost their homes.

We've been thinking about you and hoping for the best. Please tell us more when you can.

Glad you were safe!!!

There are rumors that several more people died from this typhoon. It's a mess. Driving around the island is like travelling through an obstacle course. Power is not going to be fully restored until sometime in March or April depending on who you listen to. Water is a more pressing problem for many, with a majority of the island without running water. On top of all that we had a fire burning at the fuel depot, so no gasoline was being delivered to the stations. A freeze on gas sales was ordered by the government with all remaining gas being given to emergency vehicles only. That put a halt on travelling for many. The people who needed to find water and especially people who had to go to the doctor, etc., were severely impacted. the dialysis (sp) patients were impacted as the two private clinics were destroyed. medivac flights to Hawaii were a priority when the airport was finally opened. Anderson AFB was severely hit and could not accomodate inbound or outbound flights to augment the Guam airport.

I think that I will have to turn down the Office of Civil Defense's request that I work with them again. I don't want to but I need to take care of so many other things first. The American Red Cross is asking for assistance as well, but there is only so much my staff and myself can do. We volunteered during the last typhoon in July. Especially since all my staff were affected by this typhoon as well, several lost their roofs, one lost his whole house and all had vehicle damage of one sort or another. Perhaps by next week. The recovery will last for several months.

In short it's a mess. But we will recover as always.

Pueo - Such a huge storm and the second one in five months. You must have good Civil Defense, we could probably learn a lot from you!

I had heard that something exploded... I wonder if that was the fire at the fuel depot. No gas except for emergency vehicles -- that really is a hardship. Are you walking more?

Is the water restored? We forget how important it is.

All the rebuilding that is to be done... is there insurance?

Best wishes to you, your family, your staff and all the people of Guam.

It has been lots of fun to read how people from all parts of the world cope with the weather, then I read pueo's posts from Guam and quickly realized how deadly 'weather' can be. Also, how much we take for granted as far as water and electricity are concerned.

Good luck to you, pueo. We will all be thinking of you.

Misti, wow, overwhelming statement Embarrassed . I think that most if not all of the members here would do what my staff and I try to do if they could. I pay them as if they were here for the volunteer work that they do, and allow them to use the company vehicles to get to wherever they need to. The caveat being that we need to be up to schedule first. I recall that c.i. has done alot of non-profit work over the course of many years, and I'm sure many others have done the same if not donated time, money, etc. to any number of worthy causes. I live here and take an active interest in the welfare of my fellow islanders. Just doing what we can.

The gasoline rationing has been lifted and you can purchase up to twenty dollars of gasoline at one time. Gas here is $1.89 per gallon regular unleaded. I wonder what gas is where you are?

I remember when gas was a whopping $0.40 per gallon and we thought it was high then. Sad

pueo...

As I said in the PM I sent you earlier tonight/this AM, I am so glad to hear that you've made it through okay, just wish that things were better for you and your fellow islanders. I've been following the news reports from Guam at the links you've provided us with in the past, and everything you must cope with now looks really overwhelming. I appreciate the time you've taken to tell us you're okay and to describe to us the conditions you are having to deal with. I will hold you and yours in my thoughts and hope that Guam is restored to its pre-typhoon state sooner than anticipated.
