Snow and temperatures around 0°C in Balingen. Last night, the roads were extremely icy...

Spring, hamburger? What is that?

Here's between -5° and +1° with a bit of snow left .... 1m of that white stuff just 30 kilometers away in mountain region.

(Mrs. Walter just phoned me from her weekend-trip to Munich: cold and lots of snow there .... but not so much as in other parts of Bavaria [in more than a dozen counties there's state of emergency declared].)

My favourite combination!

Mild and windy in Vienna, no snow in the city. But elsewhere there is more than enough. This pictures shows a man cleaning the roof of a school near Salzburg.

friday, 2 pm : took a little walk around the neighbourhood, minus 8 C, but glorious sunshine !
forecast for the next two weeks calls for the cold weather to continue.
the massive arctic high is expanding very slowly but steadily.
as long as the sun shines we'll have no complaints - the fueloil tank was just refilled. the price is now 84.5 cents a liter of fueloil, when we moved in , in december 1963 it was 18 cents per IMPERIAL GALLON ! but what's money for ? to be spent - got to keep the economy going . hbg

It has been snowing in Virginia since about 7 am: 8 hours. It is snowing steadily now, harder than it has so far. My lawn and my field and the horse field across the road put up no resistance; perhaps even welcoming the covering of white. The sidewalks and asphalt roads and parking lot have been fighting hard. But time is on the side of the snow as millions or billions of snowflakes attack and as we get closer to nightfall. The snow gets a foothold, first on the walkways and then on the edge of the parking lot, and then it creeps outward, claiming more territory.

eastern lake ontario :
beautiful sunny day, sun just beginning to set at about 5 pm; it's nice to see the days getting longer again.
it's turned rather cold these last few days, night-time lows arond minus 12-15 C, highs around minus 5-8 C.
perhaps lake ontario will freeze over after all.
the arctic high is expected to remain strong for another 2 weeks at least.
don't mind the cold when the sun is shining. hbg

So what's the weather like in Boston, Seaglass? We in Virginia got all of 3-5 inches. The storm must have come in to the north of us so we got that bit of snow but the temperature was such that the asphalt won.
A perfect storm, I reckon, in that the roads are clear but the kids and dogs can romp around in the snow like kids and dogs should. I watched the young couple who live next door this morning. They just moved here from Hawaii. They were running around my field hurling snowballs at each other and at their dog. The lady throws, by the way, very very well.

It is now 50 degrees, and very dreary, in the "Sunshine State". I really feel badly for the poor suckers who saved all year to bask on the beach, and now this! Sad

Well lets put it this way realjohnboy i got a phone call from Pahoa last night on my cell phone inviting me to a potluck at Black Sand Beach in Kau (80's) This is the Big Islandand I cried for three hours.

I'm guessing the accumulation is roughly 10 inches and very icy underneath.

This is my last trip to the "Old Country" in winter.

Howdy Y'all!

We have felt the arctic blast here in North Texas with lows in the 20's F last night but no precip. Now we're experiencing a dome of high pressure which is bringing us blue skies and plenty of sunshine- highs in the 60's and down to 38 tonight. This should be our last bout of winter... I hope!
