gorgeous weekend here too and our small group has an art exhibition in a lovely Georgian house (now an arts centre) - we've got the whole house and it opens onto gorgeous walled gardens and the sunshine streams in the windows - just really nice to be there Very Happy

Weather is excellent here as well - no art exhibition in our small place (all the very best and success to yours, Vivien!!!) but an "apple fête" with a really nice handicraft merket (including some painters).

the promised sunshine turned out to be heavy - but much welcomed - rain. so mrs h and i have been in the kitchen this morning to prepare the "red cabbage" for christmas - yes, christmas.
the red cabbage should be prepared well in advance of christmas. so mrs h cooked up a storm in the kitchen this morning (i did indeed help by cutting up the cabbage and lots of apples). here is the recipe : one large red cabbage, coarsely chopped; one sweet onion sauted in butter; plenty of peeled, cored apples; about one pound of double-smoked bacon , two cups of uncooked rice, brown sugar, a handfull of chopped prunes, salt and pepper to taste; water as required; let the pot boil away slowly for a few hours at the back of the stove. now wait for christmas ! boil again and serve with goose, duck, turkey, pork-roast, or whatever you like.
(hmm, perhaps we should have christmas a little earlier this year ? perhaps next weekend ? after all, there is plenty in the pot and we'll have to taste-test to make sure it's ready for christmas.) hbg

It's about ten or a dozen so far I think Milf.I'm not absolutely certain.I might have got mixed up with the FTSE or the cricket scores or the vital statistics of the latest supermodel.

Don't you find that all these numbers the media throw out to justify their high salaries eventually just melt into one facial expression and tone of voice.

haha, some idiot said on tv that it's a 'natural' cycle, well maybe a natural one combained with a century of CARBON... well the fact that they are getting way more intense is pretty explainable then Mr. Bush... is it possible well in theory for say a catagory 10 hurricane and would that engulf the entire southern coast of the US...

I should think a Cat 10 would cause an effect not unlike a Catherine Wheel on Bonfire Night and the instructions said,if I remember correctly,"Pin to solid structure, light blue touch paper and retire."

The rain hasn't quite materialized in Boston yet, but the radio keeps saying there's a flood watch been issued. And it sure looks like it might pour any moment.

Raining now. But, so far, it's more like on and off showers rather than a downpour. I have to go out and get some groceries for the weekend but have been putting it off.

eatsren lake ontario :
had some very nice late summer days last week - temps in the low 20 C. it started to rain friday morning and by now we've had about 30-40 mm (about an inch to 1 1/2 inches) of much needed rain, more to come.
since it's thanksgiving weekend in canada and rain being promised, we stocked with books, magazines, cd's and video discs at the local library this afternoon. ready to relax in the "lazyboy' and take it easy ! hbg

It's been raining on and off here in Central Florida for the past two weeks, mostly because of "Tammy" ... now I hear there's another tropical wave down by the Keys, so I guess it will continue raining until they're all gone.

Since about two weeks, we have wonderful sunny late summer/early autumn weahter now, with temperatures sometimes up to 24°C (75°F) at noon.

It's two days now that we can watch enormous numbers of cranes passing our place, and the temperature at night is rather low now (at early morning time, the car's ice alarm is on!), at noon today 'only' 66°F (19°C).

its been a really remarkable October day here. Hot and sunny,

(and windy)

we parked at Wapping then walked along the Thames. Went into All Hallows church by the Tower (supported by the Daughters of the American Revolution) where William Penn got married and other USA connections, (with Knights templar alter in the crypt) then on to London Bridge, over that and via Hays Galleria to Tower bridge.

Then as we were getting in the car there was an exhibition at Wapping pumping station. Bits of clothing going up and down, and you could try them on if you wanted, but as they were designer dresses and the like...I thought better of it..

In the restaurant attached were various lovvies at least 2 faces I recognised from tv, but dont ask me who they were.. journos I think.

And the weather? hot sunny and windy. In mid October? What going on?
