It's Irene I'm worried about. She seems to be heading on a NW track which means you folks in FL are probably safe, but who knows about further North.

Right MA, she's probably just a lot of hot air!

Spoke to my aunt in Norwood tonight, she said it's extremely hot up there, like 92F tomorrow. Maybe Irene will cool it down a wee bit!

After about three weeks with rather cold and rainy weather, we had three sunny and hot days - and on the sunniest, I've been to England where it was hot and sunny, too.

Late night yesterday, the rain (and thunderstorms) started again (and it had been worse in England since I left).

Walter, how's the weather up there where you live?
My mother just called and their little creek is ready to
spill over. An Autobahn bridge above the Lech is closed as
it is declared unsafe and they're afraid it could collapse.

So many villages are under water, I wonder how urs53 is
doing in her little town. I just saw pictures of a flooded
Garmisch and the Isar in Munich is dangerously high.

Devastating to see those pictures....

Since yesterday we think, the end of the world migh get nearer:

after three weeks of rain, we suddenly can see a bright, light thing on the sky: very annoying

Seriously, we just had had strong rainfall.

But the Alpian regions of Germany and Austria and Switzerland all are in a kind of chaotic sitution: six died until now due to the rainfalls, several parts of Germany are declared to be disaster areas, the mainstreet in the famous town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is officially declared to be a (provisory) canal ...

Dozens of towns and villages in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland are cut of normal traffic.

letty : this is the weather mrs h and i have been waiting for for the last several weeks. the last few weeks were not very enjoyable - weatherwise -, much too hot and muggy for us. the last few days we can't wait to get into the garden to trim the hedge, transplant flowers ... or simply getting our hands dirty. since today we were even allowed to water - even house-numbers on even days - we were running around with the garden hose like some kids with a new toy. hbg

no, non, no ! all "very serious" business !
(since we had hardly any rain at all during the summer - there was plenty of rain within a hundred and even fifty miles of kingston - we trimmed all the dead branches from about 200 spirea hedge plants and are now watering the hedge in the hope of reviving it. but it is a LOT of fun !)
it's kind of strange that even though we are sitting right on the edge of lake ontario, we are having watering restrictions in the city. the reason : too manny new subdivisions and a purification plant straining to pump enough water.
since we are not allowed to water tomorrow - the waterpolice , heh , they are hot on the trails of the criminals - , we've filled several pails of water for watering the flowers. even carried water up from the basement - laundry rinse water - for the berry bushes. aren't we good citizens ? good night ! signing off, hbg

Has been quite silent here the last couple of weeks

I do hope that Rita won't do to much damage, especially not to A2K'ers, their families and belongings.

Well, on the first offial autumn day, we will have another nice, sunny and rather sunny day today - but from tomorrow onwards, some rain will come and finish this lovely late-summer period we had had during the last couple of weeks (only interupted by three days with rather heavy rain Crying or Very sad ).

WH, hi to you!

Glad to hear you're having some nice sunny days before winter.

It's been rainy here all week (thanks to Rita) but thank God that's the extent of it.

Rita is a nasty storm, I sure hope nobody underestimates her.

eastern lake ontario : perfect late summer weather for several days now, daytime high about 20 C (25 C sunday), overnight around 12-15 C.
went for a long walk on lake ontario beach on thursday , water was a little cool for us oldtimers. later stopped at a farm to pick a bushel of apples and get lots of fresh veggies - sqash, red cabbage, sweet onions and two stalks of brussel sprouts.

this afternoon drove to gananoque - half-hour east of here - and went to a matinee at the summer-theatre to see "poochwater" - from the review : "An amnesiac must piece together the fragmented shards of his memory from the contents of his apartment " ... a good, modern play, good acting.).

plenty of work in the garden tomorrow to prepare for "winter" ... aaaargh ! hbg

Very warm here yesterday, and I too was busy in the garden, trying to keep the jungle at bay.
This week the weather has been fine, mostly.
I think some wetter weather is forecast now, though.
