Actually, Steve, it isn't so much the falling off the bike. Mountain biking especially is an athletic activity...

I have fallen many, many times during my 30's and now 40's and none of those falls were alcohol related or drug related. I have fallen going up stairs, I have fallen going down stairs. I have fallen walking on flat ground. I have split open my eyebrow, I have turned around quickly and banged my face on a wall or door or cabinet given me a good knot on the forehead or a good bruise on my cheek. Once, while getting out of bed in the morning, my foot and leg inadvertently slipped between the bed frame and the box springs and I fell, leaving me bruised and swollen from about 6 inches above my ankle down to my toes. The only thing that prevented a break was the fact that I grabbed the sheets and mattress on my way down, slowing the fall, instead of the fast plop that it could have been.

I have always been under the impression that mishaps can happen to anyone. I really am not more uncoordinated than your average Joe, or so I thought. I have had ten years of dance lessons (tap, ballet and jazz), kept myself as physically fit as I could, even playing co-ed softball for years, well into my late 30's. I rode my bicycle religiously up until a year ago when it was stolen. Maybe I am just a klutz. Maybe I am just unlucky. Maybe I'm just human.

I'll take klutz for 1000 Alex... :wink:
