I always say "I couldn't care less," because...well, because that makes sense, dammit!
It pisses me off when people say "I could care less." What, is that supposed to be sarcastic? Which do you say?
If you said, "I could care less", it means you actually care a little.
If you said "I couldn't care less", it means you can't care any less than you do now.
****, I hit the wrong one on your poll! Dammmit...I meant to click the second one.
COULDN'T COULDN'T COULDN'T!!!
Ahem.
("Could care less" annoys the heck out of me.)

That's alright. I really couldn't care less about that poll.
I agree with Soz!!! Why do so many damned people say "could"?
I clicked the second one, but I meant to click the fifth.
Oh. I thought "I could care less" was what all Americans said?
Wow! It annoys the heck out of me, cos it makes no sense, unless said with intense irony.
I have only ever heard it from Americans.
Cool that you don't all say it!
Same reason that they say that something "peaks" their interest.
Or "if worse comes to worse".
Or throw in "quotes" just for "emphasis."
Or a zillion other things.
In other words, your fifth option but applied to the universe.
(I seem to be a tad grumpy today.)
I used to say Could Care Less until I studied english in college. Now things like that drive me crazy too.
I don't really care that "much about this thread", but I am posting "just to annoy" sozobe.
<grabs suspenders>
And you're soooooooooo good at it...
<big juicy wink>
<lets go of suspenders, Gus staggers backwards and falls in a largish pile of manure...>

Lol.
I have a friend who always says "foul swoop" instead of fell. I am gonna get HER in one fell swoop one day....
And people saying literally when it isn't...
Aaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh.....

Oh yeah, I agree completely with that one. I have literally beat the **** out of people for doing that.
I'll show YOU a foul swoop then...
I know it's couldn't, but I'm sure I've said could. I pick up on the speech patterns of those around me too quickly and often incorporate them into my own speech.
But kicky, the real topic here is why aren't you a writer.
Another one that, although it doesn't annoy me, just sounds very strange over on this side of the pond.........
"Just do the MATH"
It's Maths over here and has been for let's see now.......
hang on, I'll do the Maths.
What do you mean? I AM a writer. Look, I just wrote something right there. And there. And...anyway, writing doesn't pay. There's the short answer.
