My sister had a TIA, and that was years ago, and she is fine now. I am, however, with Soz on this inner ear infection. Just glad that things aren't as bad as they seemed, honey.

Thanks for the update!!!

I'm confused, though. Did he clear out the wax and look at your middle ear? Everything you're describing is for outer ear infections, while the fever painful ear etc. would apply to middle ear infections, too.

Glad it wasn't a stroke and that you had it looked at!

no he didnt.
he took the swab culture and examined it under the microscope and said he found no bactera build up, fungus, or virus'.
And for that reason alone, he said there was no reason to be taking antibiotics, or anyother treatment besides Dramamine.

i know,, I was a little sketchy about his findings as well..
but im no doc. I will take his word for it, but if it goes on for more then 3 days, im going back

:-?

But unless the eardrum ruptured, there wouldn't be any bacteria that he could get via swab if it's really a middle ear infection.

Also, it sounds like he didn't clean out your ear -- did he say why? (Laypeople aren't supposed to because we can do more harm than good, but there is no reason a professional can't get the wax out.)

Do you have a family doc you can go to?

i promise!!!

and no, he didnt clean out my ear. He did swab it a bit, but didnt clean it out.
I too feel like there may be more to this then him or I think//but for right now his diagnosis works. His explination covers everything I have experienced over the last 24 hours and I dont yet see any other reason to 'freak out' ,,,,

More and more these days doctors are referring Ear Wax Removal to ENT specialists.

Mr. Noddy now insists on using one of the do-it-yourself kits available over the counter in any drugstore.

We've used them too -- you put some stuff in your ear, then let it sit, and then later on flush it out with a bulb syringe (or whatever they're called.)

I'm less towards "freak out" than "the doctor's account plain doesn't make sense, might be a good idea to get a second opinion."

If it IS a middle ear infection, not necessarily anything different that you should be doing, but lots of things just don't make sense (to me, with lots of first and second-hand experience with ear infections but no medical degree.)

If there's any chance of a rupture in the eardrum, though (and if there is that much wax, I'm not sure if the doctor would have been able to tell), those kits are to be avoided.

I cant help BUT freak out.
Engraved paranoia I guess. heh

But, it doesnt make alot of sense to me either.
It seems... well.. just too simple of an explination for what is going on with my ears .
If excessive ear wax happens 'naturally' .. why hasnt it happend before? Why is it not common?
I dont have a medical degree 'so to speak' .. Im no doctor, but - be damned if I have heard of THAT before.

Second opinion here we come!

i think I have heard of those ear wax removal drops before.
There is a similar product for cats/dogs in pet stores correct?
NOT that I would use one MENT for animals. Laughing
That is just where I seem to remember hearing about it

Good.

This part is just wrong:

Quote:
He said that when the ears do this, the weight of the ear wax on the ear canal effects the pocket of fluid that is in the ear canal that gives us our balance.

The ear has three sections; outer, middle, and inner. Balance is affected when there is a problem with the inner ear. There is no way (that I am aware of) for wax to affect the inner ear. It could conceivably create pressure on the eardrum, which would hurt, but there isn't a way for that to translate to compromising the inner ear, which is all the way beyond the middle ear.

Anyway, main thing is sorry you're going through this, hope you get your questions answered in a more satisfactory way soon.

you are right..
the ' pocket of fluid ' he is referring to is located near the Cochlea.
ear wax isnt produced past the area of the ear drum.

Glad to hear it's in your ears and not your inner noggin. Couldn't the same doc be prodded to looking further? How ever you do it, get thee back to be checked out.

i had a thought...if the wax is blocking your ear canal, couldn't pressure be building up behind it inside your ear, thus putting pressure on the part that does your balance? just wondering, not a doctor or even in the medical profession, but i just thought about it.

That is what the doctor was trying to say to me I think.
That the pressure of my WHOLE ear , and the excessive fluid build up created pressure on everything. I even have a headache from it.
I just dont think he worded it right.
But , I have an appointment for a diffrent doctor
The one I saw was an ER doc, no chance of getting that one again.
Thier schedules are wacky and I truly dont remember his name...
