Been doing essentially nothing today. Well - breathing. I've been breathing. Going to walk to the mailbox in an hour and a half. I did conceive a new idea for some writing. Didn't work on any of it.

@edgarblythe,
Sounds like a perfect day to me. You're still breathing and you didn't do any work - yay.

I took a Rapid Test today (we get the 5 free kits per person per fortnight) because we're going to someone's house tonight, having someone else over for dinner tomorrow, and going to Alex's brother's for Christmas and I've had a cold. Some of the symptoms are similar to Omicron ones and I didn't want to pass on the Covid if I could avoid it. Turned out negative in 3 minutes, so I can socialize.

Bought 3 pointsettias at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago. Went to water them a week ago, so pulled down the whatever-it's-called plastic and most of the leaves fell off each one. Gave one to my neighbour, one to a friend, and I have the third. So now we all have Charlie Brown poinsettias and we have a bet to see who keeps theirs alive the longest. BTW, I have never successfully grown/kept a poinsettia.

It's snowing. Been watching it pile up the last couple of hours. My old hometown Vancouver, BC is complaining that it's going to be -8C for the next week. We laugh because we're going to be at -20+C for the next week. Thank God I have a car starter.

Made a bunch of bird food with peanut butter, bird seed and ground oatmeal. I generally have about 6 dozen sparrows and finches who come by for dinner. They're actually quite chubby, so over the summer I cut the portions down, but with this snow, will up it again.

And you say?

I planted a poinsettia two years ago. It did well the first year and produced more flowers. But it withered this past summer. I think I killed it when I swept rooftop pine needles on it and didn't move them off quickly enough. We're going to a family get together on Christmas Eve. Even though we were invited for Christmas Day to my youngest daughter's house, we're staying home and having our own cozy little meal. Ham, for sure. Don't know what else as yet. Just us and Rocky. If you want to see a dog go all ravenous on you just let it in when there's ham smell in the air. I got a phone and half of an air fryer and half of a gift card for Christmas.

A few days back there was a collision between a small plane and a skydiver. Two were killed. It sounded odd when the TV guy announced they had determined the cause of death.

I had a scare last night. My story Leaving Texas seemed to have been shortened to nine pages. I always save a story two ways - on one of the USB things and in "Documents." This time there was also the NaNoWriMo version. The computer managed to make numerous copies but all stoped with that ninth page. After I checked the word processor history three or four times I discovered a complete copy. I need a child to operate this thing for me. It would be so much more efficient.

Last night, had the family get together in the home of inlaws (wonderful people). There were no fistfights, no gunplay. I got to see family from California and Austin. Ate spaghetti for dinner. Most chose lasagna, but I'm not a fan. Got to have a great conversation with a nephew whom I consider a kindred spirit. Stood up too long and made my knees sore. Came home and took care of Rocky.

The ham is almost ready. No, not me.

I don't put the glaze **** on there. I like just plain ham, eaten like a steak. Not that steak eats ham, but you know what I mean. Since it's just we two we are keeping it really simple.

Watching the fights on channel 26. They mostly reminded me of the song Swaying to the Music. Each one seeming to think, If I attack him he might hit me. I kept recalling Howard Cosel's words during one fight: One must note a paucity of action. They finally got down to business and one guy got the knockout.

LAPD officer who killed a fourteen year old with reckless gunfire put on leave, not arrested.

@edgarblythe,
I’m so upset about this situation; however legal due process and investigation of all the facts must be followed . If it’s discovered that he is guilty of manslaughter due to stray shot killing innocent bystander, he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I guess that putting him on leave is observing legal protocol.

@Ragman,
There was more than one cop shooting wildly. All should be equally charged.

When I think of Humphrey Bogart I think 20TH Century. Always overlook he was born in the 19TH Century.

@edgarblythe,
Humphrey Bogart goes with Al Capone, John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde. He was just 1 year and 7 days old when the era of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and Etta Place came to an end. Horses verses cars!

@BillW,
Out of curiosity I began searching the year I was born. Found this interesting tidbit:
August 16 – The U.S. Navy blimp L-8 (Flight 101) comes ashore near San Francisco, eventually coming down in Daly City (the crew is missing).

L-8, popularly known as the "Ghost Blimp," was a United States Navy L-class airship whose crew disappeared over the Pacific Ocean on August 16, 1942. At 11:15 a.m., several hours after the airship lifted off from Treasure Island, San Francisco, California, L-8 reappeared off the shore of Ocean Beach near Fort Funston. L-8 briefly made contact with the ground at Ocean Beach, causing damage to the airship, then drifted over San Francisco and crashed on Bellevue Avenue, Daly City. No traces of its crewmen, Lieutenant Ernest DeWitt Cody and Ensign Charles Adams, have ever been found.

My birth year is also the year the government interned the Japanese Americans and seized their property. The hysteria must have been through the roof.

There are so many times I feel I ought to make my posts addressed to two-year-olds. Not only here but on other social media sites. Fortunately on this thread that isn't the case.
