We're the only free country in the world. That will always make us #1 by default.

Freedom may be intangible, but it is worth more than all the wealth in the world.

Solution: don't be a bad guy.

Free????????

Tell that to a woman that is force to carry a fetus to full term even if she was rape and of the millions of poor citizens who find it hard to vote due to the fault claims of voters fraud.

We are very near to having a middle east nation systems up to having private and self appointed religious police monitoring our women.

Yes. Free people have the right to go about armed for self defense.

America, being the only nation where people still have this right, is therefore the only nation that remains free.

I agree that civil liberties violations suck. That is why I am so passionate about opposing them.

Having a proper photo ID isn't at all hard.

@oralloy,
Strange that you think that freedom mean having the tools to killed large numbers of your fellow citizens including children and that the UK for example is not a free nation as it ban even high power air guns let alone powerful rifles.

My guess is that the parents in the UK are not nearly as worry about their children returning home from their schools then American parents are.

@oralloy,
Next I have friends that need to work six days a week so getting to the polls is person is hard enough for them and so doing such lovely things as narrowing the voting hours and not allowing mail in ballots and so on is shutting them out of voting as the GOP intended to do.

Free nation my rear end.

"Going about armed for self defense" has been an established right of free people for some 2600 years now.

There had been slave armies in history so arms by themselves do not indicted freedom!!!!!

The fact that the uk people are not arm does not mean that they are not free either.

Are you guys experiencing the divisiveness between vaxxers and anti-vaxxers in your town? Our whole country seems to be polarized on this issue. I've never witnessed so many people so angry! The Letters to the Editor seem to be dominated by furious vaxxers who think the hospitals and ICUs should be reserved for vaccinated ill people first, putting the anti-vaxxers at the bottom. Letter after letter after letter. It's quite disturbing to see such polarization here. It's like our country has gone crazy. The out-and-out flouting by some establishments of the mask and vaccine passport mandates, the hordes of unmasked students gathering and destroying property, the crowds protesting at the entrances of hospitals, the belligerence and defiance of some of the churches. I've never seen this. Are you having the same experiences?

@Mame,
I've seen protestors outside hospitals, it's amazing and sad how healthcare workers are now considered the enemy by some. Outside of that, I really haven't seen anything other than civil disagreement. We do have a mask/testing requirement at work with all employees tested twice weekly regardless of vaccination status. Two employees refused to be tested (apparently didn't want the company to have their DNA) and were escorted out the door. I think we've also seen some contentious school board meetings but nothing violent.

@engineer,
I've not seen anything personally but it's all over the news. It's very sad.

@Mame,
People are dying of other conditions in some states that need ICU care due to fools that will not vaccinate taking up all the units.

If I was in a car crash or have a heart attack I would not wish to take second place behind an anti vaxxer that for sure.

@BillRM,

is there anything more pathetic than an anti-vaxxer in the hospital admitting they regret not getting the vaccine?

i have zero sympathy for those people...

@Region Philbis,
I have even less sympathy for progressives who suffer any sort of misfortune.

Progressives are bad people and their misfortune is karma.

That's what you get when you politicize an issue by lying about it.

I'm sure you managed to not learn any lessons however.

@oralloy,
Which is what Trump did, didn't affect you though, because Trump knows people like you are so stupid and bigoted you'll let him do whatever he wants.

He certainly knows his base.

@Region Philbis,
Yes, but the problem that remains is which vaccines the US will accept. For example, many people here received a dose of two vaccines - a Pfizer and a Moderna, or an AZ and a Pfizer - we don't know if they'll be allowed. I'm double-dosed with Moderna, and I don't know if the US will accept that. It doesn't matter to me as I'm in no hurry to visit the US, but it will matter to others. They are awfully slow in rolling things out and in clarifying issues. And I really don't know why they equate Canada's vaccination rate with Mexico's!! We've never understood the land border restrictions since a person can walk and fly across the border, but not drive across. That just boggles the mind.

Due to overcrowded intensive care units, Romania sends seriously ill Covid 19 patients to neighbouring Hungary for treatment. (Romania is one of the countries with the most dramatic corona situation in the EU. On Thursday, none of the 1593 beds in intensive care units nationwide reserved for Corona patients were free. Even in the capital Bucharest, patients often wait for days in hospital corridors for free places in intensive care units and are only given makeshift care there, as media reported).

Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has received death threats because of his Corona policy. Police protection for him had to be increased.

Latvia's President Egils Levits has tested positive for the coronavirus. According to the Presidential Chancellery in Riga, the head of state of the Baltic EU and NATO country is showing mild symptoms. Levits tested positive in a rapid test on Wednesday evening after returning from a working visit to Sweden. A PCR test on Thursday confirmed the test result.
