Than I must have misread your post, and the "EU" meant something different.

I think so too. I just edited my post to clear up the misunderstanding:

Note also that the discussion was initially about us pulling out of the Middle East:

Thus my point about Poland being in the EU.

@oralloy,
I'd thought, it was more related to Poland being a NATO member (2016 agreement with the NATO military alliance).

@Walter Hinteler,
I was pointing out that Poland is not in the Middle East, as I thought the subject was about pulling our troops out of the Middle East.

I do however think that Poland treats the US a lot more fairly than the rest of Europe treats us.

@oralloy,
Okay. But then 'Europe' or - better - 'Central Europe' would have been equivalent to "Middle East" as a geographical position.

That was not my impression in the two years I was stationed there, but things could have changed from 1967. I did observe that Wiesbaden was more amiable than Mainz.

Why do you guys respond to uneducated morons???? Alright, I take that back, every so often I become furious over the lack of curiosity of some folks, and I respond..............It's hard (if you have raised children or supervised young people) to ignore silly stupid uninformed uneducated comments and let them wallow in oblivion....not everyone gets educated or informed, what a pity.

@glitterbag,
I'm unsure who other than you in this thread could fairly be referred to with such terminology.

I gotta disagree with you here. The relationship between the US Military and Germany has been mutually beneficial and I do not recall seeing much animosity from Germany regarding the US bases in Germany.

@McGentrix,
I think that character is probably referring to the German opposition to American unilateralism and Bush's war in Iraq, especially from Joschka Fischer:
Quote:
On fundamental issues like the International Criminal Court, the Kyoto Protocol, and the crisis in the Middle East, Fischer was openly differing with the Bush administration.

In 1999, both Fischer and Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin appealed for clemency for the LaGrand brothers, two German citizens sentenced to death in Arizona. According to the German government, the LaGrands had been denied their rights as German citizens because prosecutors did not inform the German consulate of the brothers' arrest in 1982 until a decade later. However, both were put to death in a cloud of cyanide gas. In response, the European Union submitted an anti-death-penalty resolution to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

Although Fischer was in favour of stationing German troops in Afghanistan, he advised chancellor Schröder not to join the war in Iraq. Fischer famously confronted United States Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld at the 39th Munich Security Conference in 2003 on the secretary's purported evidence for Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction ("Excuse me, I am not convinced").

Lots of America First! types and imperialist warmongers are still butt-hurt over this sort of thing.

@hightor,
The protests against the Iraq war were offensive, but that wasn't a German phenomenon. Progressives were vomiting their hatred everywhere in the world.

I'm referring to accusations that our soldiers are not in Germany to risk their lives to save Germans from Russian aggression, but rather that Americans are imperialist aggressors.

@McGentrix,
There are also modern protests wanting us to leave Germany because of our use of drones.
