The military draft had been put out to pasture in 1975 by former US President Richard M. Nixon. But the divisive concept is popping along with hyperbolic drops of #WWIII (World War III) on social media.
What are the odds of this happening if things escalate between the US and Iran (worst case scenarios involved)?
Do you know many persons who will qualify for the draft? Would you qualify for the draft? I'm pretty sure I aged out of any possible (soonish) military draft. If I qualify? We're royally screwed as it means the military is desperate and needs to pull the largest force from the US population (regardless of how low the parameters will have to be to pull someone in my age group, etc...).
There's a Congressional/Presidential committee will drop a report on the potential of the draft coming out this March 2020. The committee will determine if women need to be added to the draft (qualification wise and mandatory recruitment upon reaching a certain age to register).
Congressional committee reportedly weighing up adding women to the military draft
A little context on how it needs to happen if person(s) in the Trump administration or beyond are willing it to happen.
Quote:Congress and the President Authorize a Draft
A crisis occurs which requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply. Congress passes and the president signs legislation which starts the draft process. It should be noted that the president cannot initiate a draft on his or her own.
Source of quote, though I wish I had a better (more academic source than a (possible) blogger who himself doesn't footnote his own blog/article for factual verification. So ... take this quote with a grain of salt.
