I would warn Intrepid about making suggestive posts which some sensitive souls might view as RACIST. Intrepid left out a word and a good thing too. I thought he was going to write B....

You can't write that word, Intrepid. Not in any way, shape or form. That could be interpreted as a racist statement.

You doubt me?

You think I jest?

Well, I hate to put such words down on a thread but truth is imporatant. It seems that a politician got into trouble when he gave a speech to African- Americans when he used the word - Niggardly.

One can't be too careful nowadays, Intrepid.

That is the most nonsensical bunch of tripe that I have read in a long time. You have NEVER, and will NEVER see me saying anything racist. Unlike yourself with your little N word! Time to grow up Mr. Chic BTW, numerous spelling errors noted in your post. Your sole purpose seems to be stirring up the pot at every opportunity and shame on us for letting you do it.

Perhaps, with all of his gifts, nimh will be able to competely rebut Klein;s forthcoming book which, I am sure, will nail Hillary to the wall on the Cattlegate matter as well as on many other choice items.

Despite Nimh's blatherings--My post stands unrebutted. I am sure that Nimh has never read and never heard of Marshall Magazine and the Journal of Economics and Statistics.

Niggardly is in the dictionary and means stingy. Did it predate the term "nigger" or is it related?

Lol!!!!!

I so don't believe this! Such drama about a wee innocent word. You must promise to give it fair trial, with counsel, Lash.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niggardly

Niggardly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Niggardly is a word synonymous with stingy and miserly, and a niggard (noun) is a miser. The word may incorrectly be associated with "nigger", a racial slur against Blacks. Although the words sound similar, there is no etymological connection between the two: "niggard" and "niggle" came from the Old Norse verb nigla, meaning "to fuss about small matters", while "nigger" derives from niger, the Latin for "black".

In 1999 David Howard, a white aide to Washington DC mayor Anthony A. Williams, was forced to resign after using the word. He was subsequently rehired.

dlowan. What part of this did you misunderstand?

I didn't think there was anything wrong with it after I looked it up. It is INTREPID who is complaining.

I'm sure you'll make the same comment to him you incorrectly made to me. Since you're all perfectly fair and unbiased in these situations.

Certain you'll apologize to me for your error as well.

Which bit of Intrepid's post is complaining about niggardly, pray tell?

Intrepid - were you complaining?

If you were, you're a wally, dear, and need to look up dictionaries first!

Lol - this is hilariouser than the last hilarious thing I saw here.

I had already looked it up.

You should be concerned about INTREPID, though, who didn't look it up and says it's racist.

My concern was providing you with a link to help with a question you raised, Lash. That's all.

Which bit of mine did? Why did you feel compelled to don your usual self-righteous attitude and act as though someone made a fuss about niggardly? I had not.

He is unable to post to issue. What huge chip is weighing on those scrawny shoulders that renders you unable to do anything other than characterize other people? Did you get bullied in school? Couldn't get any girlfriends?

I might look for a post of yours without negative personal characterization. I wonder if there is one.

Probably not in the Politics forum. Try looking in the English threads where he likes to pontificate.

Although he is not personally insulting in his last two posts, they do seem quite forced.

Let us return to matters which affect 100 million Americans or so-plus their families.

One good reason to vote for Hillary is the outstanding economic performance during the Clinton presidency. This is illustrated in the following graph, which shows full time job growth during Alan Greenspan's tenure at the Fed.

Remember, the population keeps going up, and jobs must be created to keep up. With Clinton, not only did the jobs keep up, but people who were out of work before he got in went back to full time work.

As you can see, Bush I and Bush II have indifferent results. This is disastrous, since the population keeps going up and jobs must be created for the new people.

Once more, the excellence of the Clinton program is illustrated. Once more, we see that Alan Greenspan only looks good when Clinton is in the White House.

Oh, and you are seriously trying to maintain that the wonderful economic performance under her husband's Administration-an Administration of which she was an important part-will not affect her popularity or affect any possible run for the presidency?

Hee hee.

Now, back to the subject. The chart illustrates the soundness of the Clinton economic plan, which is certain to be an important issue in 2008.

Unless, of course, full time job growth to enable people to support a family has stopped being a concern to Americans. Somehow, I doubt that's the case.

Actually, the words aren't even related, etymologically speaking...

Quote:
The adverb form niggardly was formed in the sixteenth century from niggard, the name for a miser or stingy person. In the Wycliffe Bible of 1384 it was spelt nygard; earlier still it can be found as nigon, and another form nig also existed. We are pretty sure this was borrowed from a Scandinavian source, because there are related words in several Germanic languages, for example, the Old Norse hnøgger, meaning "stingy".
http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-nig1.htm

The word "niggardly" does not have today, nor has it ever had, any relation to the word "nigger" except in the minds of politically correct, hyper-sensitive morons.
