What kind of boat did Ben Gunn make?

I have an NC WYeth illustrated Treasure Island nd , according to his picture, it looked like a little coracle. You know , those little circular skin boats they use in Wales.

laissez les bons temps rouler
Cajun expression for "let the good times roll": not used in proper French, and not generally understood by Francophones outside of Louisiana, who would say "profitez des bons moments" (enjoy the good moments)

As for myself, I would say: Que la fĂȘte commence!

@Francis,
Well, the point is that noone would really pay attention to anything other than my "rouler" phrase. AFter all, my curragh plans were designed by the Louisiana Celtic Society.
Cajun French is like Pennsylvania Dutch, Germans from German y often have trouble with the dialect because it incorporates many English and Indian words.

Skills of a high order are required for that effemm which is probably the reason you fear them. A lot more people have come to grief on a barstool than ever have floating in a sheltered bay with coastguards nursing them.

Cutting out the patterns for the boat frame is getting difficult. I need to make a better jig that I can clamp down the wood and move the saw around so I dont lose my place. AFter I finish each frame section, I coat them in a hardener and a varnish to make them as impervious as possible for gluing and bolting up. (My little boat building trick. A good coat of hardener and water soluble marine varnish acts like a nice joint sealer and keeps the joined sections from squeeking and groaning when your drifting or tied up.

@farmerman,
effemm-- if I may distract you from your project I have a small favour to ask of you.

Recently, the effects of Mr Jack Palance were auctioned off not too far from where you are. There were two paintings by Trevor Lawrence in the sale. I have a painting by that artist, an English eccentric who is still active I gather. There are a number of people here, including myself, who are interested in the price the pictures brought.

The auctioneers were Keystone State Auctioneers of 1215 W.Southern Ave. Williamsport PA. 17702.

The pictures are on Keystone's website. Nos.3227 and 3228.

With you being a well known PA artist I thought you might be able to help us.

Thanking you in anticipation ( as the Bishop said to the actress as he escorted her up the stairs.)

I enjoyed that last sentence. Mac has no sense of humour.

@McTag,
its apolyurethane base . It allows multicoats in a short time nd dries nice and tight. Hell they use latex paint in marine mixes also.

@spendius,
Perhaps I can help in another fashion. Williamsport has a postal code (zip code) of 17701. Go to Auction Zip (dot) com and enter that zip code and it will have a calendar for all auctions past and presenty. The auctioneer usually posts all sorts of information of upcoming auctions and some prices realized. The only wy I could find the actual works is to enter on one of the ART links and go hunting. You can do the serch and learn that Williamsport is as far from me as Dublin is from Dover.

@farmerman,

I knew a lovely Irishman who replied to a request of mine in like wise, in the following words:

"You supply the brush, and I'll see my tailor."

@McTag,
Today I spent in peaceful jointery . Ive been laying out strips for the decking. I want to make a pattern that contains a dark border strip nd a medallion of a celtic rope in marquetry. Im going to take a pattern from a CEltic design book by DOver and explode it several times till it fits my decking size. Ive seen one done by Chesapeake Light Craft and theirs had a large heron all across the deck. That was a bit m,ore advanced than Im willing to attack right now. MAybe the next one .

Sounds great. Have you tried to master the picture-posting process for A2K yet? I'm all agog.

Maybe a shamrock instead of a heron would be do-able?

BTW we need another Noah here, it's absolutely pissing down outside- and I've got to go out.

I havent had the urge to post anything yet. I just have a cement floor and some splints being cut on the bandsaw and table saw.
