The White Sox will be here in two weeks. An old pal of mine, who lives in Eugene, is coming up here to see one of the games. A life-long Sox fan, he's cautiously excited about the team right now. It will be first time at Safeco Field--he's in for a treat!

Fine I'll come out and say it... Sox, of the bleached variety, 2 out of 3. Wins Friday and Sunday... I'd call the sweep but the Sox have always had troubles with Knuckleballers.

That series is a perfect example as why I shouldn't get excited.

Agreed, this year Red Sox just looks more dominant than ever (standing wise in their own division anyways). RedSox seems to pull comeback wins one after another. J. Garland's wheels came off right from the get go. If he was as composed as former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Carpenter (now a member of St.Louis Cardinals) and if Hernandez shows up on time to his games (he was late vs. Blue Jays) then they might have a shot for the World Series this year.

Garland is fine. i worry more about Hernandez and Conteras.

On another note, the rumor mills have been swirling as of late about a trade with the Reds. Apparently Griffey has cleared waivers and the Sox are interested. If it turns out to be more than a rumor I may get excited real quick.

Pods is on the DL right now so you could play him in Left. Once he comes off the DL you could bench Carl Everett and have Grif DH or perhaps DH Dye and have Grif play right. I'd keep Rowand in center... his D is too good and Grif has lost a step out there. There would be a lot of opportunities to bench guys and keep them fresh and rested for the play-offs. I think it is a great idea.

I tell you what though... I'd sure find a spot for him somewhere.

sounds like it would be a surplus out there.
none of these guys would be happy sitting.
if they can make it work, that becomes a very potent offense...

Yeah... and there is something to be said about breaking up the chemistry that has taken them this far. But adding a bat like Grif is worth the chance, IMO.

Guillen has done a great job letting the players know what his expectations are and that it is a team, not an individual, that gets the job done. He did a nice job when the Big Hurt was in the lineup moving people around, getting them rested, but not taking away everyday players positions. I think he could do the same with Grif.

I think it could really get some of the younger guys to buy into the team theory if Grif came over and practiced what Ozzie is preaching. Guillen isn't afraid to bench a player, no matter who they are, if he thinks there is a better matchup with someone else. Grif could be a great example of sacrificing his stats for the betterment of the team. Look at Iguchi... he was a power hitter in Japan. He came over here and Oz told him they needed him as a #2 batter. He adjusted to what the team needed and started hitting to the opposite feild or taking pitches and laying down bunts to move runners over. If every player did that they would be really hard to beat.

Perhaps I should change this thread to read: Is it to early to get worried.

In the middle of a bit of a skid. We have lost 5 straight and they have only won 6 of their last 15. It really is the first long win draught they have had all season so I'm not to worried... but a few strong wins in a row would help alleviate my concern.

Well, things have been looking up lately. they just had a 4 game win streak end last night.

They are down to 8 games over the second place team. That worries me a little bit, but if they just play 500 ball Cleaveland would have to play lights out in orde to keep up.

I just hope they don't have to play Oakland in the first round.

looks like the Griffey deal fell thru... prolly just as well.
adding a new player this late in the year would most likely hurt more than help...

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about him for a week or so now. I still think it would have helped them. He seems healthy and hitting pretty good again. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.
