If Jesus died to forgive us, then why is there a Hell?

Anyone who truly understands Christianity...would recognize it as the hypocritical, festering sore on society that it actually is...

...rather than the inappropriately glorified picture you have of it, MA.

But your mind is closed...so you simply cannot see that.

Doing onto others? You haven't developed the passtime of pissing on your neighbors, have you?

I love both my neighbors despite the one to the right being an arrogrant prick from time to time. He did let me put my satellite dish on his roof (I live in a town house with common rooves and his section of the roof was the best shot at the satellite signal). I've actually gotten along better with him since he's maintain his little dog from barking and his wife left him.l

As far as not killing -- we don't have a solution from God or anywhere else to stop killing. The gas chamber? Starting foreign wars on bogus evidence? Curbing the study of stem sell research which coujld prevent people being killed by diseases? I could go on 'cause our "God fearing" society is doing quite poorly on all those Christian beliefs.

LW, I'll add to your list. Discrimination against gays, and making every attept to limit a woman's right to choose abortion. Besides, the bible is full of discrimination against women. Bogus teachings from the bible have hurt humanity since it's inception!

Change the word 'teachings' to 'misrepresentations', and we will have 100% agreement.

Add the word 'nominal' before the word christianity and I would have no problem at all with your posts. Well, this one, anyhow.

No need to change anything, ci. "Teachings" works just fine. Bogus teachings from the Bible have indeed hurt humanity since it's inception.

My quote is quite correct the way it is written. I am sure you want to dilute it in some way...but that probably has more to do with hard-headedness than reason.

Well, yeah; OK. A bogus teaching would be a misrepresentation. I wasn't sure that's what was meant. Thanks for the clarification.

That's okay, I normally used for he, she or it, "gawd" as in "gawddam" or "gawd forsaken." Of course, there is a lighting rod on my house although he, she, it has never tried anything. Likely thinks I know a way to short circuit his, her its message.

And just what is so illogical about loving they neighbor? Doing unto others? Not killing?

You obviously accept science as "the truth". There are millions of scientific theories out there! Do you believe them all just because they are science? By putting your belief, acceptance, etc., into science, you are putting into the hands of mortal men.

I am putting my beliefs, acceptance, and faith into something greater than any of us or any scientific theory, equation, etc.

I do not understand every single word in the Bible. I do not understand every single word in some of these threads! But I understand the concept of a God loving me so much that He wants what is best for me. I understand the concept of someone laying down their life to save mine. It's just like someone stepping into the path of a bullet aimed at you. Man hath no greater love than to lay down his life for his brother. What's so hard to understand about that?

What makes you think that " loving thy neighbor? Doing unto others? Not killing? " are traits that only Christians can have?

Mighty presumptuous of ya, there.

Usually "faith" refers to beliefs that are accepted without empirical [observed] evidence. Most religions have tenets of faith. Science differs from religion because it is the nature of science to test and retest explanations against the natural world. Thus, scientific explanations are likely to be built on and modified with new information and new ways of looking at old information. This is quite different from most religious beliefs.

Everyone's a skeptic -- about other religions

Pauligirl,

I don't think those are traits only Christians can have! I was responding to something Lightwizard had asked me.

Please do not confuse me with Christians that think they know the whole truth and condemn others because they don't believe the same way. I firmly believe in everyone's right to their own beliefs and as a Christian, Muslim, Buddist, etc., they are entitled to that. I apologize if I didn't make my post clear.

From the little I do know about other religions, I believe they all have something along the line of love they neighbor, do unto others, etc.

I hope I cleared that up.

Not really. You still left out the non-believers. You don't have to have gods to be good.

Pauligirl,

Well, I was kind of hoping the "etc." had covered it all. But yes, I believe that all human beings can have good traits. I am saying that anyone (non-believers and believers (of any religion) alike) can have good traits.

I have many friends that are non-believers or a different religion than I am. And, I consider them some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
