No, they call them illegal immigrants OR illegal aliens. What f-ing media are YOU watching? Shocked

Migrant
: one that migrates : as a : a person who moves regularly in order to find work especially in harvesting crops b : an animal that shifts from one habitat to another
- migrant adjective

Are these illegal immigrants and/or aliens not ALSO migrant farmers as they move from location to location, looking for work and trying not to get caught? Perhaps we should also address the jobs that no sane American would perform, and which is generally designated for illegal migrant farmers. If nobody else will perform these tasks, then how are we to cope?

It's a catch-22 that you don't seem to be fully aware of. You also don't seem to be aware of yet another sticky situation regarding illegal immigrants:

Quote:
Illegal Immigrants/Social Security

One of the constant arguments that I hear about illegal immigration is that they are draining the nations economy. It is alleged that they don't pay taxes yet benefit from government spending - education, healthcare, and even some welfare spending. The problem with this is that it is untrue.

This article (hattip to both Joan at LA Mom and Bradford Plumer) takes a look at how illegal immigrants pay millions into social security and medicaire yet never receive a penny of those benefits:

As the debate over Social Security heats up, the estimated seven million or so illegal immigrant workers in the United States are now providing the system with a subsidy of as much as $7 billion a year.
While it has been evident for years that illegal immigrants pay a variety of taxes, the extent of their contributions to Social Security is striking: the money added up to about 10 percent of last year's surplus - the difference between what the system currently receives in payroll taxes and what it doles out in pension benefits. Moreover, the money paid by illegal workers and their employers is factored into all the Social Security Administration's projections.
...
It is impossible to know exactly how many illegal immigrant workers pay taxes. But according to specialists, most of them do. Since 1986, when the Immigration Reform and Control Act set penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, most such workers have been forced to buy fake ID's to get a job.

Most studies are showing that the vast majority (75%) of illegal immigrants in this country are working and paying taxes, and most receive very little benefit from it. Just in Social Security alone illegal immigrants pay approximately 7 billion dollars per year.

As Joan says, "Imagine if they were legally recognized and didn't have to lie in order to contribute to our economy."

So you can use other arguments (which don't typically hold much weight either) to hate illegal immigrants...but do not use the economy, because it just is not true.

I'd also think twice about shooting them, cjhsa. You never know; their collective pittance of a salary could very well pay for YOUR retirement one day...

I've been watching our f-ing media as well as the regular type media but there's not much reportage on either and I've been following it on the internet.

We have problems with illegals and that's turned into a huge political football but we have nowhere near the problems with numbers that you do. I won't go on about the issue of illegals of itself but stick to the discussion concerning white supremacist groups joining in. Lots of common sense points have been made here, on both sides of the argument.

1. the bloke running this show can't stop someone rocking up and joining in - as has been pointed out, they're not going to turn up wearing a pillowcase, or whatever it is the Klan wears nowadays, over their head - and I think they'll be tempted to leave the Swastika armband and Stormfront tee shirts at home. So on that what's he going to do about it? Not much, he can't.

2. if it hits the fan because of the actions of said white supremacists then I wouldn't want to be this bloke. This might be unfair in some eyes but he should have foreseen the possibility of infiltration of his group (I won't say posse because I believe that has status under your law) by white supremacists who are probably spoiling for a fight with the illegals, unlike his primary group which seem to be content with calling the authorities.

3. as a political point it has been well made, he would be wise to get out of it before it gets very ugly

Goodfielder:

There is no doubt in my mind that these white supremists will keep their robes and swastikas at home. In fact, we probably won't know at all who's who when they all get together in attempting to patrol our borders.

But your second and third points hit home regarding my point in this thread. Unless the border patrol can convince these renegade vigilantes that they can do their jobs without them (which will not happen unless Bush actually funds Homeland Security adequately to project Americans at home), then this is certainly a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps this bloke can start by condeming ALL racists, rather than bitching that only one group was singled out. That alone indicates to me that he doesn't have much of a problem having these redneckers in his group's midst. Secondly, he and his groups would have to be supremely organized as to not allow accidental shootings or killings. If they can pull this off, and get Bush's attention in funding border patrols without firing a shot or sustaining any serious injury, then this could be a success and draw attention to the cause of protecting our borders.

Aye, it's a risk he's taking but if he pulls it off, he'll be a legend for sure.

Anyway I must watch the media on this. As it warms up I have no doubt we will get reports (guaranteed to get the bad news, guaranteed to not get the good news).

I shall watch both types of media. That is the local media (broadcast tv) and the f-ing media. The f-ing media is available via cable, it's called Fox News. I know that Fox News is the f-ing media because when I watch O'Reilly I always end up saying "that f-ing media O'Reilly".

I'm now on f-ing media watch.

It would seem as though the rednecks are having their way:

Quote:
Minuteman Project lies again

This is too much.

One of their members caught an illegal and made him hold up a T-shirt so he could be video taped and humiliated. On Hannity an Colmes, Chris Simcox (one of the leaders of the group that has been convicted of federal weapons charges ) lies to Colmes and then tells the truth in a New York hot second.

http://movies.ziaspace.com/Minuteman_Tshirt.wmv

http://movies.ziaspace.com/Minuteman_Tshirt.mov

rough transcript:

Colmes:...part of your group who had this person that he detained, put on...hold up a T-shirt that said Bryan Barton caught an illiegal alien, and all I got was this T-shirt.

Simcox: Not true Allan

a hot second later

Colmes: So he did hold up the T-shirt?

Simcox: Well yea is that a law?

Then the punchline.

Simcox: He let the guy keep the T-shirt.

No this is not The Simpsons. There may not have been forcible detention, but what about human decency?

Yep. Seems as though perhaps those white supremists are havin' a little fun. Maybe they're a little peaved 'cuz Alan Colmes picked on them...

Oh, and by the way, they aren't immigrants. Just illegals. They have no intention of ever becoming citizens. That may have been the case at one time, but not any longer. They're just varmints.

How is someone getting paid under the table going to help me retire? I plan on retiring with the money from SS that I get to invest.

I would rather pay more for goods produced or harvested by US citizens then I would for goods produced or harvested by law breakers. Throw them out and have the homeless do the work. At least then they will be able to provide for themselves and start to get their feet back on the ground.

The only homeless person I ever gave money to was one that was holding a sign the read "I'm not going to lie I want money for beer". I gave the guy a dollar and thanked him for his honesty.
