A Newbie
I've just completed my 1st month (I'm currently eating up the brown pills).

I was so excited to find this topic.
I'm 23 and this is the first BC I've actually stayed on, but I'm already having second thoughts. I've gained about 7 lbs without a change in my diet or activity. I'm only 5'2 and this has knocked me out of some clothing options. Crying or Very sad Will this eventually cease or am I just on my way up the weight chart?

~Really wanting some advice from some user and not just the Dr.

Thanks so much!!!!

A la,

they say it takes up to three months to fully adjust to a BCP. it didn't change for me, i turned into a psycho workout girl and lost nothing...just stayed the same (now i have lost a total of 15 lbs since going off-however i didn't actuallly gain while on it, but i firmly believe it stopped me from losing). unfortunately it is never the same for anyone. you have to decide what you think is happening and then either stick it through or talk to your doc...

the spotting maybe just your body still trying to adjust. it can take up to three months for the pills to get out of you system. if you are worried, i would call your doctor.

Thanks for the advice.
I did talk to my doc and like you said they advised me "to give it 3 months, and if I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel (who says that).....we could try something else." It is just really frustrating to find a BCP that has helped my skin, lessened the cramps, and lightened the flow, but uuughhh!
Are you taking something new?

Estrostep FE
Has anyone stopped taking estrostep and has some that they would like to sell? My new health insurance does not cover it, and it is $40! It is crazy, but they cover viagra, go figure!!

yes, i switched over to something called nuva ring. it is a plastic ring that you insert once a month and take out after three weeks, the week without it you have a period and then you insert a new one. i have had a lot of success with it. i really like that you only have to remember once a month, but that is a good thing and a bad thing all at once. i gave estrostep 3 months, and my reason for leaving was the migrane headaches i started getting the week before my period. i couldn't work with them and that was a bad thing. however, not everyone gets them, it is unfortunately specific to you and your body and how you react to certain BCP. you have to keep trying every three months until you find one that works for you (it took me 13 years to find this one Sad )

Visit your local heath department...there is a chance they can give you discounted or free pills.

Otherwise, weight the $40 a month for pills against the cost of a baby....I can tell you which is cheaper.

Re: Estrostep FE
I was going to Planned Parenthood, and it was only $17. Whoever makes Estrostep decided not to distribute them through planned parenthood anymore.

I know this is a late addition, and I will admit I didn't read all 17 pages, but here's my experience with Estrostep FE:

I was on it from May 2004 until last month. I went on OCs because of elevated testosterone levels, so I actually experienced miminal weight loss, lessening of appetite (in a good way), but also breast growth. It didn't affect my emotions negatively at all, and I loved being on it. Anywho, I saw a new doctor who recommended Yasmin, which I HATE (crying, horrible emotions, and water retention...blech).

I'd recommend Estrostep to anyone.

Hey . . .i'm new

Hey Ladies. . .

I'm 20 and just went to my first Gyno visit this morning (a lil late, i know!)
I asked her about BC and she gave me a 2 month sample of EstroStep. . .Just wanted to let you all know that i've read all 17 pages and you guys have been extremely informative. BC can make first timer a little wary. . .but I feel good judging from the results you guys have had.
I was just wondering, since Dragon suffered from such bad migranes. . .
I suffer from migranes currently, especially the week prior to my period. have any of you experienced worsened headaches due to this pill??
Also. . .how much would you guys trust this pill to go "condom-less"?
My boyfriend and i have been together for a year, and we're both 100% STD free. . .we were wondering how safe this is Laughing
Thanks Girls!! keep you al posted as far as how this goes for me. . .

Well, this pill is as effective as any so if you are ok with 99% effecitness when used 100% properly and are sure that neither of you has anything to share (STD wise) then feel free to go naked.

As for headaches...I've gotten more headaches on this than any other pill. I have also had some other medical issues so I don't know if it is the pill or the other problems. If you get headaches, then tell you doctor.

Bella. . .
Thanks for the quick response!!
As far as STD goes. . .lets just say the only person who could have given something to him is ME. . . Cool We've always been very safe. . .and i've still got a hell of a lot of grad work and career in front of me. . .I have a feeling i will be totally anal retentive about taking my pills, (keep the kiddies away!!!)
It'll be a couple of weeks till my next period, so. . .i'm a little anxious to get started. i know this sounds cheesy, but i feel like a kid with a x-mas present, lol.
Thanks again to all of you for being so open about everything you've experienced with this BCP. . .its really opened my eyes!

hey! ok, so i am finishing the placebo pills now. This stuff is a lot better than what i used (ortho tro cyclin lo) Not only has my acne gotten better, but the moodiness is way better too. I don't get headaches either. I think starting estrostep was easier on me than some of you galstaking BC for the first time because i was already on BC before i started this. I remeber a year ago when i started for the first time i had bad symptoms, but my body was just adjusting to that stuff. Anyhoo, i like this a lot better, and it works for me since i just use it to regulate my flow and such. Does anyone know if estrostep has less hormones than orto tri cyclin lo?? All I know is i feel liek myself again using estrostep:)

mine were always the week before my period. now that i am off them, they headaches have waned a bit, but are not gone completely unfortunately. i am much like you, finished grad school a year ago and i am dilligently working on my career which i want to have solidified before i start having kiddies. we still use other forms of protection because i just want to make sure. i am anal Smile so i make sure we don't get pregnant just yet...
