@layman,
Oops.

I withdraw that support for León pending further reading. I’d done a bit, but I hadn’t seen that.

The democrats will lose a shitload of electoral votes when California secedes and declares itself to be a new province of Mexico. They won't like that, but there's nothing they can do now to stop it, so....

The State's only hope now is to dump Moonbeam Brown and vote some republicans into office to take their State back.

But that aint gunna happen, neither. They're completely outvoted by hispanics waving Mexican flags.

ICE would be able to help, too, but they're the ones who are illegal in California, not all the felons running around with fake green cards and social security cards.

@layman,
It's a real mess out there, but it has been for a long time. My brother lives in California for half the year, but only because both of his kids and their families live there. He's as far left as I am right, but even he is having a hard time accepting the insanity. The housing market alone is crazy with a little 1,600 sf bungalow in the LA area going for at least $1,000,000. The income disparities among Californians is a bad or worse than anywhere else in the country, and with public officials deliberately stymying ICE agents trying to round up illegal immigrants guilty of far worse crimes than crossing our border without permission, the crime rate has to be on the rise.

How does a great American city like San Francisco lose an AMA Convention because human feces are all over their streets and creating a health hazard?

The last thing I read about San Francisco's solution for their homeless problem was that they were planning on flying the indigents to the homes of relatives in other states. How the hell is that going to work? How many families will want to take in a long lost Uncle who is a drunk/drug addict and/or mentally disturbed? And that's what the city is dealing with. People who are down on their luck and temporarily living in their cars are a) probably not interested in being flown to a sister's home in Topeka, and b) not defecating in the streets. Seems like a very expensive way to do very little about the problem.

It's as if Californians have signed a massive statewide suicide pact. They'll all be virtue signaling in their graves.

My thoughts exactly. I just can't fathom how they can be so self-destructive and not see their own death coming. Can they really be that stupid? I know that emotions will generally trump reason, but to these extremes?

What’s it been, 40 or 50 years that republicans have been projecting California’s demise (politically)?

Maybe one day you’ll be right. I mean, it seems like literally NO ONE wants to live in California. Housing prices must be dropping. Unemployment must be through the roof with all the businesses leaving. Probably just a bunch of low wage jobs.

...is that the sky falling? Interesting.

@maporsche,
Oh plenty of people want to live there: Homeless folks from around the country, aspiring actors and porn stars, Silicone Valley billionaires, and illegal immigrants galore. It takes a long time for a nation or state to rot out (Look how long the USSR managed to keep going), but once it crosses the tipping point the collapse is pretty rapid. California will reach that point if there aren't big changes.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Let's take bets on which states do worse over the next 5-10 years, red or blue ones.

California will be just fine I'm sure.

The new mayor London Breed has kindly asked transient San Franciscans to either stop shitting on the sidewalk or to clean it up afterwards.

That’s bound to improve the situation.

@maporsche,
Yes, California will be just fine. We are the 6th richest (country) in the world with a diverse economy. We live in Silicon Valley where some of the major high tech companies are located. Apple has a campus about one mile from where we live in Cupertino, and they are now building a huge campus in our city about three miles from our home. It's nice to live here because many of the workers are highly educated, and our city is rated one of the safest cities in the country. The biggest problem being the high cost of living. The California economy is almost $2.5 trillion.

@Lash,
I clicked on your link. I do like what Sanders and Ocasio-Cortex are doing.
I hope democrats across the country do the same. I truly think that can be a winning strategy.

I doubt I will be bothering with this site in another 5 years but with that caveat, I’m happy to take your bet.

@cicerone imposter,
I’m sure it’s nice to live where you live but there are millions living elsewhere and in abject poverty

@Finn dAbuzz,
It's not all peaches and cream here in Silicon Valley. As with any other large cities, we have our share of poverty and the homeless. With the increasing cost of housing, many are being squeezed out. We're lucky only because I paid off our mortgage in 1998 when I retired. Homes in our area costs around $2 million, and it's even worse in Los Altos (about 11 miles from here), where my wife and I had lunch and to walk.

Very true Finn. When I look at the numbers, I see:

Mississippi 21.9% in poverty
New Mexico 20.6%
Louisiana 19.9%
Alabama 19.2%
Kentucky 19.0%
Arkansas 18.7%
Georgia 18.4%
West Virginia 18.3%
Arizona 18.2%
Tennessee 18.2%
South Carolina 17.9%
North Carolina 17.2%
Texas 17.2%
Florida 16.6%
Oklahoma 16.6%
California 16.4%

California is just THE WORST in the country in poverty. Just horrible.

The red states on that list total 18.7 million people. We should do something about these states huh?

@maporsche,
I’ll be verifying your numbers, but in the meantime I never said anything should be done about the poor in California. That’s up to California and I don’t live there. I’ll pay Texas taxes to help the poor in Texas.

...and vote for politicians who promise to do less for the poor (cut welfare, reduce medicaid, etc) in Texas (I imagine).
