@Sturgis,
I don't live there, but on the surface, he seems pretty good.

@edgarblythe,
DeBlasio manages to present a good appearance, then his full arrogance and ugliness comes out.

Several pages of his E-mails were released recently. The local press had asked for them and by law he had to do it. In them he carried on about how mean and wrong minded the press was to him. He badmouthed the entire media. It as sort of like a Democrat/(alleged) Progressive version of Trump. He does similar things at press conferences and other places.

He lives in Manhattan on the east side and there are YMCAs in the area, however he takes himself and an entourage by several SUVs over to Brooklyn everyday for his "workout" . Ask him any question and he will attack. He doesn't want to work before that either.

Now, we have his latest. He wants to do away with entry exams for the city's top schools. He says this will even the field and bring in more minorities (he means black and Latino). Apparently Asians aren't a minority. Oh wait they are, but the same kids steal all the school spots by doing well on the admission tests. Some 60% are Asian.

While abandoning the admission tests, he wants to take the top 5% from each junior high/middle school. Since many of these schools have truly abysmal graduation rates (one school says only 7% are prepared for high school), it will likely power he standings of the specialized schools. At no point in time has he addressed the fact that some 5 years into his reign, the schools are still failing. There are students being graduated who have little to no idea of what fractions are. There are many who cannot compose a sentence much less n essay or book report.

Sure he won a second election. It was as bad as the first. Not even 30% bother showing up to vote. Why? Because the NYC machine doesn't put forth any challengers.. I mean real challengers, not some unknown. The Republican ticket has also helped him as they can't find a strong candidate, which isn't all that odd in NYC which is mostly Democrat. The exception being the borough of Staten Island which pulls more towards Republicans, especially out on the south shore.

There are many other problems associated with DeBlasio (the number of homeless shot higher and he hasn't gotten a handle on it). He plans to shut down Riker's Island, the main prison within 10 years (i.e., he'll be gone and someone else can get any blame). He's proposed a prison in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, nothing however on Staten Island which still has most of The buildings from the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility.

Staten Island is also transportation challenged. DeBlasio put fast ferry service into the other 4 boroughs, however, nothing for Staten Island. It's clear why they refer to themselves as "the forgotten borough". They're still waiting for the subway to be brought there. (along with festivities and much back-patting, ground was broken for it back in around 1921 or 22. 40 years later they got a bridge to Brooklyn. Nice bridge, 2 levels. The downside is the toll is higher than elsewhere in the city.

So, Progressive DeBlasio is not one i would go for. Ask people such as Christine Quinn how he sabotaged her shot at becoming mayor.

Ask me about how when he was Public Advocate he did nothing to fry to save the local hospital. Her did however take on the chance of a photo-lo when a hospital in Brooklyn was facing a similar fate. I recall he even got a slap on the wrist summons and pseudo -arrest. If it hadn't been election season (his first for mayor) or cameras, it's a sure thing he wouldn't have been there.

One last thing, while not getting the schools up to a sec he standard, he does all he can to try and end charter schools. The charter schools at least educate the children and are well integrated. Maybe he should ask what they are doing!

I'm not a fan of charter schools, but your case against the man seems compelling.

Well, so far it looks as if there will be a democrat in all the districts up for re-election in California.

That's good news. The democrats escaped a possible disaster.
Maybe after this, California might go back to the way it use to be, having one candidate from each party represented in the general election. At least I hope they will return to the old format. This time the democrats avoided a potential disaster. Who knows what might happen the next time.

Agreed. This is a horrible way to run primaries in California.

Feinstein is one major reason I find it hard to believe in the Democrats anymore. Here she is, poised to remain insconced, like a boulder in the middle of the highway.

Wow! That's between a rock and a hard place. I did write to Feinstein once when they were getting ready to vote for the war in Iraq. I told her not to vote for it, because we chased out the UN Weapons Inspectors while they found no WMD's. She didn't listen, and this was the consequence of her stubbornness. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/15/iraq-death-toll_n_4102855.html

How do these people live with themselves, and sleep at night? This taught me a good lesson: Don't waste your time trying to convince politicians to do the right thing.

@edgarblythe,
Feinstein is one of the old crones who said, “I’m just not there yet,” on universal healthcare—as if the people of this country should continue to pay for her incredible healthcare needs and be denied the same from her.

There is NO coming back from that as far as I’m concerned, and only fools would keep her occupying that space.

@Lash,
Didn't she vote for Obamacare? How is that not universal healthcare?

A thing on facebook provided a survey on Joe Biden for president. I took the survey, but it ended on a page to donate money and I had to simply shut it down to get out. The comments were full of accusations the man's a pedephile. I looked at some videos of him around children and he was extremely friendly with kids, putting his hands on their shoulders and hair. What I saw does not make him a pedephile in my book, but the suggestions magnified in a presidential contest could poison the public to think he is. I don't want him anyway, but he is a vulnerable candidate, I think.

@edgarblythe,
I also found political polls to be money raising scams. I don't bother with them any more.

@Olivier5,
I’ve seen pictures of his hands on prepubescent nippies more than once and weirdly close face to face moments with young girls.

Truthfully, I don’t think he’s aware of it because he was out there in the public domain being photographed —not in private. He’s just very weird. If Edgar ‘s point is that someone will use these pictures against him, they will. In this #metoo pedo frenzy climate, it might hurt.

Btw, guys. Anthony Bourdain killed himself.

@Lash,
Yes, the current #metoo climate encourages people to behave as heartless, bodyless machines, or be branded as criminals.

What's the connection with Bourdain?

@Olivier5,
Just that he committed suicide. No connection, really, to the conversation. He was a champion of the #metoo movement... just an aside.

There are lots of these videos out there. The deeper into this one you get the more such behavior is pinpointed.

Wow. I never watched any of his shows (they weren't my kind of shows) so I only know his name from advertisements. But that's horrible. I wish people didn't have to suffer.
