Cycloptichorn
If the CIA refuses to hire people who smoke pot, why LOWER the standard for Wilson, who had a critically vital CIA investigatory assignment?
They were gunning for the WH. Since when does that kind of strategic, clandestine information get sprayed all over the news?
They don' t actually refuse to hire people who have smoked pot. That might be the case with the FBI (I don't know), but certainly not with the CIA. It's likely a problem if you're currently a chronic pot smoker, but that isn't an issue here. Am I wrong?
I heard on some news snippet that the CIA was considering relaxing their standard of not hiring anyone who had smoked pot in the past. Can't find it in print, though. And, I've NEVER heard of the kind of divulging Wilson did so soon after his "fact finding" mission.
I wholeheartedly agree about the divulging; that seems unprecedented and very strange to me.
The pot issue is minor, but I can assure you that they hire people who have smoked marijuana in the past. The main thing the CIA is worried about concerning past drug use, etc., is that someone might use that information to blackmail you. If you admit to past use of pot, and if you're open about it (i.e. you're not currently using and you can't be blackmailed), they'll likely be OK with it.

What an odd comment.
I assume it was meant to be clever, but confess that it's gone clear over my head. Not surprising since I often find the wit & wisdom of crusty old southwestern coots unfathomable. It's a damned good thing, for me, that there aren't very many of them living in the affluent and pretentious suburbs of Dallas.
Steppenwolf wrote:Finn d'Abuzz wrote:Steppenwolf wrote:You're painting with too broad a brush, Blatham. Lumping together Bork and Falwell, for instance, is a bit odd, nor should one assume that all right-leaning sources and individuals are implicated by a Scanlon-exposed "conspiracy."
Perhaps the hardest thing for the left to accept is that American politicians - for all their flaws - may actually reflect the beliefs of the mass of Americans. Is it so hard to swallow that many Americans aren't being manipulated at all? That there isn't a conspiracy? That the conservative ascendance reflects genuine, deeply-held beliefs? At any rate, we are all subject to manipulation by social movements and media bias. The important thing to remember is that it's a dynamic process. The media and our politicians not only shape America, but also reflect America. DeLay didn't rise from the darkness. He reflects a movement that has been growing since way before either he or Scanlon took the stage.
The left will never get anywhere as long as they try to engage America with patronizing messages like "Oh, that's not your real belief; you dummies are just being manipulated." That's the line fed to us by elitist liberal gems like "What's the matter with Kansas," a book that I'm sure didn't raise as much as an eyebrow in Kansas. If you want to promote change, you need to engage people as equals (sans the manipulation bit).
This one is a gem. I'm saving it.
Enjoy it, Finn!
I did, but knowing me, the thrill will soon wear off (I feel it shedding even now).

can't say as I blame ya for that finn, if I was in your shoes I'd want to forget it as well.
Thanks, S'Wolf. I thought I was the only one who was sort of doing a double-take.
What Wilson and Plame did has been conveniently been lost in the shuffle.
Like Wilson telling the truth about Bush lies in a matter as serious as the US invading another country?
Yes, he did good. Bad stuff trying to punish/threaten people for telling important truths...kind of treasonous, and anti democratic, wouldn't you say?
dlowan wrote:Like Wilson telling the truth about Bush lies in a matter as serious as the US invading another country?
Hold on ... Wilson told the truth? When?

An equally odd comment, unless I am guilty of some
Stetson related remark of which I have forgotten, but which dys will, I hope, remind me.
dlowan has morphed into one of those who close their eyes at the portions of the 911 Report they don't like. The report caught him in a few lies and at least one major error/lie.
They are still pretending it isn't so. I've shown them several times, but facts are rather irritating to them.
Now that the diversion over the outing is wrapping up, maybe the press will get around to exposing Wilson for the a liar he is, and the CIA, for breaking all the rules to smear Bush.
This is good, if I may introduce it on this thread: HOW TO BECOME A REPUBLICAN

Sorry, McT ... not "good" or funny.
Ticomaya wrote:Sorry, McT ... not "good" or funny.
Did I say it was funny? It's very sad, to me, as it indicates how America has lost its way, and even its soul.
But it's good.
Hilarious Mc Tag, in an awfully ad and truthful way.
Well, you hafta laugh, no?
Another sad indictment of a group who has waddled off the path of sanity:
Are you...
...speaking out against every security measure that President Bush proposes because you claim it will turn America into a "police state" while simultaneously planning to criticize Bush for not doing enough to protect us when we're inevitably hit with another terrorist attack?
...convinced that killing a baby in the womb in OK, while killing a serial killer is wrong?
...terribly disturbed by the idea that Europe might not be happy with us, but fairly indifferent to threat that terrorists present?
...of the opinion that those racist, warmongering, Fascist, Nazi-like, heartless, moronic, evil, Republicans are mean spirited hatemongers?
...horrified when you hear about dolphins being killed in a tuna net, but unperturbed by a woman aborting her own baby?
...wondering if we can "afford" a tax cut while supporting every expensive, new social program proposed in Congress?
...worried that the electronic voting machines might be rigged, but unconcerned about people voting without a picture ID?
...against a draft if it's needed by the military to field a fighting force, but for a draft if it's proposed by anti-war Democrat in an attempt to undercut support for war?
...terrified by the idea of global warming, but only minimally concerned about stopping terrorists who want to release biological weapons in the US?
...opposed to cutting taxes on the middle class and the poor if it means that the rich will get a tax cut as well?
Do you...
...criticize Republicans because you think they judge people by the color of their skin, yet support race-based Affirmative Action?
...think that UN approval was irrelevant when Bill Clinton wanted to go into Kosovo, but that our invasion of Iraq will be "illegitimate" if the UN doesn't approve?
...support going to war for "humanitarian" reasons unless our country will also benefit in some way, in which case you're strongly against it?
...claim that you want a strong economy, yet support almost every regulation & tax increase that comes down the pike?
...enjoy the nostalgia of going to anti-war rallies and chanting Bush Lied, People Died, even though you can't name his lie?
...tend to trust things said by blood thirsty & unbalanced dictators more than you do things said by your own President -- provided that he's a Republican?
...believe that trial lawyers who win outrageous malpractice judgements against doctors and drive up medical costs for the rest of us are really "sticking up for the little guys" who end up paying the bills?
...feel that banning handguns would be a more effective crime fighting tool than severely punishing criminals & "three strikes and you're out" laws?
...think that nations like Iran, Iraq, and North Korea are only minor annoyances and that the United States is actually the greatest threat to world peace?
...point to David Duke, a former Klansman who never won an office above state legislator, as evidence of racism in the Republican party, while believing that having Robert Byrd in the Senate doesn't reflect negatively on the Democratic party?
...admire the "human shields" who went to Baghdad, but think protests in front of abortion clinics should be banned?
...believe that we rushed to war with Iraq despite the fact that the UN has been trying to convince Saddam to disarm for more than 12 years?
...think Ann Coulter is mean spirited, vicious, & shrill, but Maureen Dowd, Ted Rall, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, John Pilger, Margo Kingston, Tom Daschle, Noam Chomsky, Arianna Huffington, Molly Irvins, Eric Alterman & James Carville (among many others) are nice, sweet-natured, and reasonable?
...tend to be minimally concerned about the victims and potential victims of terrorists, but very concerned about how the terrorists are treated after they're caught?
...feel that the rich must have inherited their money, gotten lucky, or cheated someone to earn their wealth, but that it's society's fault that people are poor?
heehee, waddled...and Lash is projecting...AGAIN...gotta stop thpse primitive ego defence mechanisms, girl....heehee...waddled.....
Nah...we are speaking out against a lying, insanely warlike idiot.

waddled--a way to say walked unsteadily.
You're quite weird at this time of day. Must have struck a nerve. Does "waddled" get you in the size 18s or something? Do you have gait dysfunction? Heh. Yeah, there's some projection going on, alright. Heh.
That was a terrible rag-bag of unfounded accusations at no-one in particular, Lash.
I imagine you didn't write it yourself, but some other lost soul did.
I am surprised you aired it here.
Are you saying anyone who doesn't support Bushco falls into these imaginary categories, and automatically holds these views?
I would have thought that anyone who opposed Bushco would be more likely to be a person who did not want to be misled by, and have his country sullied by, a self-serving bunch of duplicitous thugs.
