@tsarstepan,
I'll go read that after I post this, Tsar.
What made me smile is some small stuff - talking with favorite clerk at my local grocery store, plus no need to go there on the weekend now; coming home, settling in at the computer before facing garden weeds and running across another grubstreet article, this one on what the composer/conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen, whom I like from his time in Los Angeles, has been eating lately. All sounds good to me.

Actually that was on the computer before I left for the store, trying to beat the post Friday morning traffic. I'm nuts, you know - I read Grubstreet NY, Village Voice, LA Weekly, and SF Weekly on food, and if I have enough clicks left in the month, Jonathan Gold at the LA Times, and once in a while Yelp and Alibi on what is happening locally (not a lot). Oh, and the Guardian food people.

I just got the confirmation that all the letters, my father exchanged with my mother during the war, additionally to all the documents (plus photos and hundreds of more letters) from his three years as POW in France, will be preserved, archived and exhibited in France (archives et musée départementales de la Manche in Saint-Lô).

I'm really happy that all will stay in one place.

@Jack of Hearts,
Finished writing out Christmas cards - dozens and dozens of Christmas cards! Phew, so good to have that chore out of the way for another year.

The Habitat guys came to my house again today. I liked them again, the first guys being off today or maybe this week.
I'm talking about Habitat for Humanity, Jimmy Carter's brainchild. I didn't know they had thrift stores until recently, and I read up. I'm not a hoarder but look like one, especially since I don't work with most of my accumulated stuff any more.

I happen to like what is left of that accumulation. Only child who moved around a lot, parents died relatively early, sentimental person. I've stuff to sell, but not really the means to - I can't whip back and forth to the not very local post office to mail off stuff on some kind of every few day basis.

I told the phone person early that I have architecture books to give, but that I'd like them available to the builders as a resource. She said she'd make a note of that. Some of those arch books are worth money, so I qualm, sold for money versus interest - I'd want them to go for interest, so I was reserving that batch.

Today the older guy told me they are hoping to make a library at the new place.
Man, that would make me happy. Does already. Younger guy was tuned in.

That's a kick, I hope it works. I naturally think of it as a store annex in itself.
I once proposed specific travel stores in airport terminals to Borders and a vp sent me an interested letter. I guess he was overruled, whatever.
