@dyslexia,
Walter just asked me to post something nice about him before he returns home to Germany; I, of course, declined.

@dyslexia,
Well, you'll have the chance of doing such still during the next few days ...

@Walter Hinteler,
There was an incident last weekend involving a stolen car that caught fire in the parking lot of my store around 1 am.
I got the fire department's report today which included this sentence.
"The fire and heat also damaged the awning above the car and a tree next to the car. The awning had a sign for the Studio Art Shop and we attempted to contact the business and building owner but no one answered because the lettering had melted off."

@realjohnboy,
I think that was just a case of bad editing.... I could be wrong.

A girl who switched schools over the summer made her mother drop her off at our school (her old school) to say hi to us. Aside from being sort of demanding of her mother, I thought this was very sweet!

@ossobuco,
The 60 foot tall Sycamore is pretty much scorched all the way to the top. It was a very hot fire, evidently. My tree guy for the last 35 years (who also takes care of the trees at my neighbor, Tommy Jefferson), says we will have to wait until Spring to see if it was killed.
My insurance company says that it is covered if it does die for the cost of replacement. I was surprised by that.

Talked with my youngest son today. The oldest son and wife are considering a visit to Texas on Thanksgiving and he suggested he could, maybe, drive down that same weekend with wife and 2 daughters. Oh, my constant smile all day is making people think I am really dotty after all.

They will all stay in Austin and we'll drive there daily. My house is full of cat hair which is distressing to the #1 son. But, there's so much to do in Austin and we won't mind at all taking them out to dinner few times, seeing the museums there, the live music bands, the theaters. So, I won't have to say Bah Humbug this Thanksgiving.

Yesterday evening, I met the most wonderful woman on my walk.

She was having a talk with the cows in the field. She obviously suffered from advanced Alzheimer's.
She looked at Pearl, my dog, with absolute delight and wonder and said, 'Ohhh - THAT'S a big event!
' She was absolutely delightful- though she couldn't understand speech.
She knew that I was asking her questions but she couldn't comprehend the words to ascertain what I was asking so she could answer them. I mainly wanted to know her name.
When I realized my questions were causing her stress, because she knew I was asking something of her she couldn't give, I stopped talking at all and just let her lead the conversation.
She was an aphasic poet. She indicated all the houses with a sweep of her hand and said, 'When we moved here - my husband got me when I was young- there was nothing here.'
She continued , 'Nothing was here - only burning - all of this- the houses, the trees, the fields and people- all burning - aflame. And down at the bottom,' she indicated the cornfields behind the houses, 'I walked until I found the stone. It is still there.'

She walked me past her own house to my gate and kissed me on the cheek and said, 'Well done.' I took her hand and walked her to another neighbor's house and asked where she lived. I walked her back to her house. She took my hand in hers and kissed my cheek again and said, 'Well done.'

I felt blessed.

@aidan,
Aidan, what a wonderful account. I hope that one day--when enough time has passed--I will have a faded memory of your experience as if it were mine.
Thanks.
