What made you smile today?

Came upon the "skaters parade" on my way back from the woods today: had to wait at the traffic lights until the snake of skaters had passed by with its house music and traffic cops on skates. It was a fun sight.

In more cliche-reinforcing news, btw, the local police has warned the organisers it will actually start enforcing the laws concerning the helmets skaters are legally obliged to wear on the public street; at which the organisers loudly decried the violation of established rights, according to the logic that if something has been tolerated for a long time you can't suddenly turn back on it, and threatened to stop organising the parade.

Course, I can sympathise with them on the helmets, but you gotta smile at this logic on 'established tolerance' - very Dutch.

Simple smiles today:

I woke up to an absolutely GORGEOUS day.
I found a CD I've been searching for when I popped into the record store.
I found out the RVP is NOT stopping in tomorrow, so I didn't have to pull a 14 hour day.
I spent a great day helping out a former boss to find she's no longer the evil woman she used to be. (But I'm also not the "wet behind the ears" kid I was when I worked for her.)
I arrived home to two precious kitty faces pressed to the window awaiting my return.

I was at the hospital waiting to have a "dexa" scan when over the loudspeakers came the sound of bells chiming the first few measures of Brahms Lullaby. I looked up and the nurse at the desk smiled and said, "Oh, a baby was just born." Gosh, it was a nice moment.

Forgot to post yesterday:

Outside my job's office, three girls, fifteen or so, sit on a bench, watching people walk by and fooling around. One is blowing bubbles, jostling with the others and blowing bubbles in their face, etc. She's being very happy about it.

Coming back from lunchbreak and seeing them, I smile, and walk upstairs. When I sit down at my computer, I look up - and see big shiny bubbles float past our second-floor window, reflecting the light of the sun.

Oh, nice!

Summer makes me smile, a lot. Today it was the sozlet (as usual -- hey, you dog people are consistent, too) playing out in the yard. She started out with clothes, then declared she wanted to be naked. It was warm, not that many bugs, we have a 6' privacy fence, and I felt that denying a 2.5-year-old the right to frolic naked in the privacy of her own yard was way churlish. So, clothes off.

She'd been playing with the hose, and I squirted her a bit. She screeched, and ran, not far. Then came back, I squirted her, she screeched, and RAN! We have a big yard and she ran all the way to the back -- probably 100 feet or so. She then repeated this process about a zillion times... slowly creep back, get squirted with the hose, shriek and run at full tilt until the safety of her favorite rock was reached. There are few things as adorable as a naked baby running away from you at full tilt, arms a-flapping. Very Happy

sozobe ~ my Douglas used to do the same thing, but in our front yard.....I got to know most of our neighbors because they just had to stop and wave to the adorable nekkid redheaded baby!

That adorable baby is now six feet tall, two hundred pounds and he made me smile yesterday by telling me I was the best Mom in the whole world and that he would never ask me for anything again. Embarrassed

YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

Full out belly laugh at the picture of a six foot tall naked "child" running from the garden hose. I think I need sleep. Smile

My cat, George, who is stubbornly unsociable to anyone but me; curled up in my lap, with his head against my belly. The absolute trust makes me smile.

Terry ~ glad that thought made you smile, but I promise the child hasn't run around nekkid in a lot of years now.....He gets embarrassed knowing that he did it as a toddler!

snood ~ had no idea you had a kitty! George is a lucky cat to have you as his human! My Lacey has been freaking out the past two weeks because we've had visitors ~ but she crawls out from underneath my bed when she knows I'm in my room ~ I've had to correct a lot of posts and emails because she's plopped herself on the keyboard, purring insanely.

awwww, snood, nice! Very Happy
Another good cat moment: During the first little peep of sunshine for days, here (Melbourne, Oz, on this shortest & very chilly day of the year) my big tuxedo cat was thoroughly enjoying the surprising warmth outside .... doing big flip-flops on the warmth, on the back verandah. He meowed a welcome & his contentment to me when I ventured out. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Ms. Olga ~ so cool that you have a tuxedo cat, too. I don't know what I'd do without my Lacey......she's a plopper......the minute you show her any attention at all, she plops down on her back, exposing her belly ~ the ultimate trust from a cat.

Hi, I'm Rae, and I love my cat.

Yes, but Rae, mine is a JUMBO!
You should see me trying to read the Sunday paper in bed, with him attempting to sit on my chest! Shocked Ouch! By comparision Lacey is a wee, dainty little thing! Smile I do hope she adjust to your guests before too long!

Ahhhh.....Lacey won't, Ms. Olga ~ she hides under my bed until she knows I'm there.....To her credit though, even if my visitors are in my room, she comes out from under the bed and will let them pet her. But, only if I'm there.

By the way.....reading anything in bed is impossible when Lacey is around.....She's only been with me for a few months, but I've already learned that if I'm on the bed, she comes first! And I don't mind! I love my mushy cat!

Same here, Rae.
You should try reading the paper THROUGH this critter sitting on my chest, right in my line of vision! .... If that's not enough, the high power purring would destroy any attempt at concentration! They have ways of getting what they want, these critters, they have ways .... Very Happy

Yes, ma'am.....they do have their ways. Took me a few tries to respond to your previous post because Miss Lacey decided to sprawl on the keyboard......but all is right with the world.....Lacey is calling me to bed. It's time to cuddle with my favourite kitty.
