(Note to self not to discuss snapping turtles with sozobe...)

I came up with a way to respond to a co-worker's inane request that sounded reasonable (as if I were agreeing to do what she wanted) but managed to promise nothing without actually lying! Very Happy

Just sent the FI a:

Radio Control Fast Lane Super Slicks Nissan 350Z: Copper (27 Mhz)

It's what he wants for his next car, but it's not practical for him to EVER own since it can't fit a dog or baby seat. At least that's my reasoning so he doesn't go get one. So this remote control car is as close as he's going to get. Hope he enjoys it. Smile

Very Happy

How's your new home going? Still loving it? Do you know EVERYONE in the neighborhood yet? When's your Gringo thread going to reappear? Very Happy

What's a U.U.?

(slacker jjorge finally gets back to msolga)

Hi msolga, Sorry to take so long in replying. I've been a slacker. Sad
(slap! slap! slap!)

My new home is going fine. I've got a ton of Spring bulbs I had better get planted though. Before too long the ground will be frozen hard as a rock around here!

I am continuing, though at a slower pace now, to meet my neighbors. One new neighbor that I wasted no time in meeting though, is the new Portugese bakery and cafe that opened last week on the corner of my street.
Have you ever had Portugese sweet bread? ...mmm!... (sound of lips smacking) sweet bread makes me smile! Very Happy

U.U. is short for Unitarian-Universalist, a liberal religious faith that has deep roots in New England (eg. Ralph Waldo Emerson was a Unitarian minister)

This Sunday I'm becoming an official member of this congregation.

P.S.

I AM going to revive the Gringo thread..... soon ....

Hope all is well with you down there in Oz-land!

Worked my second job at the video store tonight and had a fabulous time! Every single customer who came in was in a GREAT mood and up for conversation. I swear, we had three customers standing at the check-out counter (movies in hand, ready to go) and they all spent at least two hours just hanging out and engaging in conversation with me and my coworker.....everything from Arafat to Peterson to pets, movies and just about everything in between. It was really great!

My friend, Shannon, and I even got one of my customers to join us for our ritual Sunday dinner at the all you can eat Chinese buffet ~ we go for the dungeoness crab legs.....mmmmmm.....

Life is good!

Belgian pralines? Are they anything like New Orleans pralines?

A sad kind of smile, I mean sad for them, but I couldnt help but smile cause its just so cute: I went to the website of Kriterion cinema to see about the programme of GDR cinema they should have this weekend, but what do you get to see first when you open their homepage? This.

(That says, "Cinema cat missing. Who's seen my little brother Jim? He is a young black tomcat with a white chest and three white whiskers on the right. [..] Have you seen Jim since Wednesday night, please contact Kriterion under phone number ... Thank you for your attention, Jules.")

Cute!

I was thinking of you when I was reading how unsettled (read ugly) things have become in the Netherlands recently.

Stay safe and well!

Went to dinner tonight with my husband and his two children, to a very hot restaurant owned and ran by a good friend of my stepson. Both the friend and his wife are chef's and they treated out little party very well with extra appetizers and a wonderful dessert tray especially made up for my husband for his birthday, which we were celebrating. Everything was so delicious and Sherry, the chef/wife, came out of the kitchen to say hello. On the way home, my husband said that they made him feel very special. That's when I smiled.

Re-reading this one:

Terry! You lucky girl!

Ok, another little kid funny to make me smile (histerical really). E was upset for something or another (ie: she was tired) and we were driving (ie: trying to get her to fall asleep) around. She was getting more and more upset and I asked her to calm down. I told her we'd go home if she would calm down first.

She held her little tiny hand up by her face, palm forward and said, JUST like an adult, "I <sniff>, am.... <sharpinhale>....calm." She patted the air a little with her hand even.

Then I pointed out that she wasn't really calm enough since she was still crying. So, she said, "I a<voicecrack>m not <sniff> cry<voicecrack>ing"

I looked at her in the rearview mirror. She looked dead at me and said, "I am calm" in almost a whisper, with her little hand up patting the air, TWICE.

I said, ok, we'll go home. She was asleep within a minute.

Scene: Sozlet putting her baby doll to sleep. Very sweet and nurturing, tucking her in, being gentle.

She goes and gets a small stuffed animal -- a monkey -- and lays it down carefully next to the baby doll.

E.G.: "Is that monkey for your baby to eat?"

sozlet: [scandalized] "NOOOOOoo!" [pause] "I have to cook it first." [Runs off to get a pan.]

OK, when my 28 year old son was three, we were eating at the dining table with company. He was fascinated by the candles and quietly pulled one closer to obseve it. He pulled too much and it barely singed his nose: He said, "Oh, sowwy candle!"

I was looking up info on this track I heard ... all I had was a scribbled note that said "london calling sleep the slang now". That shoulda been speak the slang now, obviously, and it turns out to be a track called Galang, by M.I.A., a Sri Lankan-British lady. And a cute track it is too. Plus she's got at least as cute a website. You go to http://www.miauk.com/ , click on the bland enough picture you see there and then explore the colourful mayhem. Njoy.

nimh! Surprised
I just thought of you a minute ago!

I was wandering around my spring garden in my pyjamas (as is my morning habit. Laughing ) & was utterly mesmerised by the new developments:
new shoots, new buds, green, green, green & a feeling of utter contentment. Very Happy Then I thought: I wonder how nimh's little balcony garden is coping with autumn? Is he still sitting out there in his big coat? Very Happy

o.k.
so this isn't smile material for everyone
but it is smile material for anyone with a hairy-butted pet
poop gets stuck occasionally in/on those hairy little butts
cleaning it off it it gets stuck/matted is just nasty
nasty, i tell you

soooooo, we're out for our walk, and Bailey has poop-butt. something's stuck in the hair and just won't shake off. so he rushes over to me, and turns around and raises his tail, so i can fix him up. Smile-worthy. Especially when your other dog growls and fusses when she needs help with her poop-butt.

it's a pathetic life when your dog's poop-butt can make you smile. Confused
