@hightor,
Quote:
In fleshing out the constitutional requirement of high crimes and misdemeanors, the first article of impeachment tracks the language of bribery, saying that Mr. Trump sought to pressure the government of Ukraine “for corrupt purposes in pursuit of personal political benefit.” Mr. Trump’s lawyer, the Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz, asserted that Mr. Trump can be convicted only for conduct “akin” to bribery and treason. Mr. Dershowitz has been wrong on the law many times in this trial, but even by his standard, the articles of impeachment express an impeachable offense.

The guy who wrote this article claims to be a lawyer?

Setting aside the fact that it is standard practice for administrations to make other countries do what they want in exchange for aid, the Constitution is talking about presidents accepting bribes.

As we all know, a talking point that was developed on the right during impeachment - "No one is watching this boring thing" gained a lot of repetition from the typical right wing people. Viewership figures were touted as evidence.

I certainly didn't bother watching.

The State of the Union address drew a considerably smaller audience on the broadcast networks than it did a year ago, at least in the preliminary ratings from Tuesday.

It's been a long time since I've watched one of those as well (from presidents of either party).

EXONERATED!

US Senate Clears President Trump of All Charges

by Oralloy, a2k Newswire staff writer
Wednesday February 5, 2020

President Trump was exonerated of all wrongdoing today as the US Senate cleared him of all charges. The House Democrats had seen their case founder from the start of the trial as it quickly became clear to all observers that nothing that the President was accused of doing amounted to an abuse of power. Still, House Democrats persisted to the end, repeating their claims of wrongdoing over and over again in the hopes that people would ignore the fact that the behavior in question was not wrong in any way.

As the Democrats' case progressively collapsed, they shifted from a futile effort to prove imaginary wrongdoing to trying to stave off their inevitable defeat by prolonging the process with an endless string of witnesses. But as it was clear to everyone that the Democrats had no coherent case to present, the Senate was having none of it, and they voted to bring the entire sorry debacle to a rapid close.

Today the final vote came, and President Trump was declared to be completely innocent on every charge. "It was all a hoax and a witch hunt!" said one senator as he was leaving the proceeding. "Not guilty!" said another senator with a smile as he walked past reporters, "Now the President can get back to running the nation and getting things done for the people." One observer from the audience, a visitor from Canada, screeched at the reporters "I think what that guy over there thinks!" When asked why an internal American matter should make someone from a different country so visibly upset, he quickly repeated "I think what that guy over there thinks!"

Now that the impeachment debacle is at an end, polls indicate that the voters are eager for Mr. Trump to return to running the country smoothly and efficiently.

Maybe you could find a liberal author to tell you? Surely someone from the Vox or the editorial board of NYT could help.

No one watches broadcast TV anymore. It's all online now. Surely you know that in all the reading you've done.

Time for some satire, I reckon.

https://babylonbee.com/img/articles/article-5400-1.jpg

Quote:
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Mitch McConnell felt bad for Nancy Pelosi after watching her get forced to impeach the president by the radical wing of her party, then impeach him and sit on the articles of impeachment for weeks. So, he decided to cheer her up a bit.

McConnell had his staffers deliver Pelosi a shirt reading "I Impeached The President And All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt." Pelosi did not seem to understand the nice gift, pointing her finger sternly and lecturing the McConnell staffer: "Don't mess with me." Though her dentures fell out before she could finish her rant, sadly.

"It's the least I could do," McConnell said, a grin slowly spreading across his face. "I feel bad for the poor girl -- so much work on impeachment for nothing. Everyone needs a little consolation prize, a little affirmation. A participation trophy, you might say."

As an offended Pelosi held a press conference condemning the shirt as a "slap in the face," Mitch McConnell hurriedly confirmed hundreds more conservative judges.

Here's the thing......people like you can only enjoy a gloat and imagine you have destroyed the folks you envy. That's incredibly sad, and it doesn't build our society. It sickens everything the founders imagined for this "a more perfect union"........the founders were not perfect, many owned slaves...it's despicable and evil....but they managed to hammer out a document that yearned for independence and freedom.

Some folks can only feel pleasure with "in your face" smackdown....do you know why? I do, it's because some people are so woefully weak they can't imagine being brave, they have no scruples, they are simply cowards who think the law and honor are notions that someone else should adhere to.

It's so sad to see another person seduced by a criminal.....but it has been a reliable tool of our enemies since forever and now we watch the incredibly needy
get sucked into a noxious organization that hopes only to crush people.

@glitterbag,
I don't envy anyone.

Well, I guess I wouldn't mind being very wealthy. But even in that case, I don't really care that other people have wealth that I don't. So, still no envy.

I have more bravery and honor in my little toe than you have in your entire family tree.

Yep, they have become so craven they will worship egregious acts against others for routine normal activity. It's as if they are 12 year old girls enraged over another 12 year girl who caught the eye of a 12 year boy......YES, lets go nuclear. round up the folks Donald fears and shove them in a cage with the kidnapped toddlers.
