A petition to stop US President Donald Trump's UK state visit has gathered more than a million signatures.

Numbers of signatories have been rising rapidly since a US clampdown on immigration came into effect over the weekend, causing anger worldwide.

PM Theresa May announced the visit during her recent US trip. Downing Street has rejected calls for it to be cancelled as a "populist gesture".

Labour's Jeremy Corbyn urged the PM to postpone the visit.

Graham Guest, a solicitor from Leeds who began the petition, said he wanted it to "put the spotlight" on Mr Trump.

On Sunday, he told the Press Association news agency: "A state visit legitimises his presidency and he will use

It doesn't matter what Theresa the appeaser says, if that piss stained pervert is given a state visit there will be riots.

So, you're perfectly happy to use an accusation against someone that most people agree is likely false. That is fundamentally unfair. I have evidence that you were seen running down children in the street in your car and driving off cackling with glee.

Six people have been killed and another eight wounded in a shooting at a mosque in Quebec City, Canada, police say.

Shots were fired at the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre on Sunday night, where more than 50 people had gathered for evening prayers.

One suspect was arrested at the scene and another was arrested nearby. Police do not believe there are other suspects at large.

The Canadian authorities are treating the shooting as a terror attack.

"We condemn this terrorist attack on Muslims in a centre of worship and refuge," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.
"Muslim-Canadians are an important part of our national fabric, and these senseless acts have no place in our communities, cities and country."

I have provided more than sufficient examples of why Islamic extremist terrorism is a real danger that needs to be taken seriously. As for your list of places where people have been butchered by Americans, they're all nonsense. For example, let's take the Afghanis. Very few people in the world have ever believed that when someone attacks your cities and murders thousands of your citizens, as in 9/11, you don't have the right to retaliate.

@Brandon9000,
Nobody has said that violent jihadism isn't a problem. What's nonsense is thinking that Trump's actions will do anything to solve that problem. They won't they will exacerbate it. Jihadis are constantly saying that America isn't anti Jihad, it's anti Muslim, all Muslims. Trump is making their argument for them.

If you were an intelligence officer in a Muslim country and you heard a whisper about a terrorist plot in America you'd be far less likely to let your American counterparts know.

yes. the Afghanis. Terrific example.

Quote:
First, according to international law as codified in the UN Charter, disputes are to be brought to the UN Security Council, which alone may authorize the use of force. Without this authorization, any military activity against another country is illegal.

Second, there are two exceptions: One is that, if your nation has been subjected to an armed attack by another nation, you may respond militarily in self-defense. This condition was not fulfilled by the 9/11 attacks, however, because they were not carried out by another nation: Afghanistan did not attack the United States. Indeed, the 19 men charged with the crime were not Afghans.

I think Afghanistan / Afghanis are right to hold a grudge against America - or as you have suggested - to retaliate. Afghanistan was attacked by America without cause.

Does Setanta agree with you?

We did not ask for this fight. On September 11, 2001, nineteen men hijacked four airplanes and used them to murder nearly 3,000 people. They struck at our military and economic nerve centers. They took the lives of innocent men, women and children without regard to their faith or race or station.… As we know, these men belonged to al Qaeda a group of extremists who have distorted and defiled Islam.… After the Taliban refused to turn over Osama bin Laden — we sent our troops into Afghanistan

To begin with (not that it really matters) the invasion of Afghanistan by NATO was sanctioned by the U.N.:

Quote:
The Security Council supported international efforts to eradicate terrorism in accordance with the United Nations Charter, and reaffirmed resolutions 1368 (2001) and 1373 (2001). It welcomed developments in Afghanistan that would give the Afghan people freedom from oppression and terror, and recognised the responsibility of Afghans to provide security and law and order themselves....Furthermore, the Council determined the situation in Afghanistan to be a threat to international peace and security and intended to ensure the full implementation of ISAF's mandate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_Resolution_1386

And the invasion certainly wasn't "without cause." They were harboring Bin Ladin and hosting Al Qaeda training camps. They refused to turn him over for "prosecution." Al Qaeda was a continuing threat to the U.S., the security of it's citizens, and western civilization in general. It was self-defense.

This statement is factually incorrect. The attack originated from Afghanistan. The fact that the attack planners deliberately used perpetrators with different nationalities is legally irrelevant.

If any Afghanis attempt hostile action against the United States, we will kill them with dronestrikes (and probably kill their families too, as collateral damage).

Those thermobaric warheads that we use on our drones are really awesome. The "explosive" is essentially rocket fuel with a small charge at the center to ignite it and send it spraying outward. The resulting fireball is pretty brief (can't squeeze all that much rocket fuel into a bomb casing), but the temperatures inside the fireball are extremely hot -- over 4000 degrees. I forget if that is Fahrenheit or Celsius, but it hardly matters.

The result is that anyone who is engulfed by the fireball instantly receives whole-body third-degree burns. The bodies are otherwise intact, but have charred skin all over their body. The lethality of the warheads is outstanding.
