I have already made an appointment to see a counselor about it as well. We'll see what she has to say about me! lol

Good move! I think that you have a lot of sorting out to do. One thing that you don't want to do (I hope) is mess up this kid's life. Good luck!

That certainly appears to me to be a rather cavalier attitude. Do you have any feelings about what harm this affair would do to this kid? Or is he just a plaything that you can keep for awhile, and then discard!

We've discussed it extensively actually...he says he's rather spend 2 years with me than 40 with someone else. I won't justify the last sentence with a response.

musiclvr, the counselor will be able to give you far better advice than us. Glad you've gone ahead with that, hope it's useful.

Of course I realize that...just that sometimes 'real world' responses and reactions can be quite helpful as well. Thanks for yours Smile

Cav- You are soo right. (thinking back, a long time). Most youngsters, having only a very short timeframe of life, don't really think too far into the future, with all its ramifications. A 42 year old woman, with the benefit of experience and hindsight, should be able to extrapolate, and make an educated assessment of what the future would bring.

Statutory rape is illegal sexual activity between two people when it would otherwise be legal if not for their age. The actual ages for these laws vary greatly from state-to-state, as do the punishments for offenders. Many states do not use the actual term "statutory rape," simply calling it rape or unlawful sexual penetration. These laws rarely apply only to intercourse, but rather to any type of sexual contact. Dating someone without sexual contact cannot be considered a form of statutory rape, and is almost never illegal.

Emphasis mine. I think kissing can certainly be considered sexual contact.

honey, if you have a hard on for a seventeen year old friend of your sons I'd be careful about the "mature" moral high ground if I were you

LOL...a hard on? If only it were that easily defined. I don't mind the bashing...I expect as much from an open forum. Just realize that this is actually a serious issue for me, not a laughing matter nor something I take lightly in the least. Hence the reason I'm here AND talking to a couselor.

we had a teacher out here that had the children of a then 14 and 16 yr old - don't quote me on the ages but something pretty close like that - she was put in jail the first time and then when she got out got preg. and went back to jail. I don't think the movie is far off the book is out written but a lady who befriended her in prison then wrote the tell-all inside secrets.

I have a colleague who has told me flat out that she is planning to do something like this with a intern who has been working for her. Her life hasn't gone all that well and suddenly she is describing herself has 49 going on 30 something and this kid has 21 going on 30 something. I told her flat out that I could not think of a better way to ruin both her career and her life. People in this situation find all kinds of ways to rationalize what they are doing; dam the consequences. What musiclvr needs is a sharp reality check. She is heading over a clift.

Soz- In "The Graduate", Dustin Hoffman played a college grad, about 21-22.
