Hello again,

I've put together a few photos of our trip to Florida. It is just East of the area where the hurricane Ivan hit - and am sure it's ok.

Of all the beaches I've visited in the world - including some South Sea Island ones like Samoa - this is absolutely the best, nicest and most unique.

Matrix, thanks for your good thoughts. We had a good time at the pub last night. Food was so-so but the conversation was good. Afterward, I was able to sit down with Dad and have a nice visit.

Does anyone know how to reduce the size of a .jpg file? I've tried attaching some avatars from my own files, but they're too big-- must be less than 6KB. I've searched all over Photoshop 6.0, and can change the image size but don't see anything to change the file size. Is there another program I should use?

Last night I couldn't open A2k. But I clicked anyway.

Danon, a good pumkin oil is essential for many recipes. What will you prepare? Styrian salad, pumkin soup?

Your link didn't work for me. Sad I had hoped for beach pictures- it is already autumn here- too cool for my taste although we have bright sunshine. The wine harvest has started- Sturm is now the drink of the day.

I tried to use the snapfish site- hope the link works

Hi ul,
Yes, your site worked - great photos - you are very good. I was at Ft Bragg, NC near Fayetteville for three years and have many times visited the beaches and islands in the South near Wilmington, NC. But, I never visited the Hatteras area - it's beautiful!! Thanks for the photos..... I really like the hammock chair!!

I have altered the URL for my photo beach site - it's http://www.snapfish.com/share/p=649171095447685905/l=33586056/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB

Hope it works!!

just susan,
I don't have the recipe for pumpkin soup handy - but, here is one I do that is really good with the pumpkin seed oil.

It's Green Pea Soup (could sub split peas)
20oz frozen green peas
3 cups chicken broth
1 well washed leek, chopped
2 tbls butter
2 tbls flour
salt and white pep to taste
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbls parsley minced
1 tbls pumpkin seed oil

Cook peas and leeks in chickn broth till very tender. Cool, drain saving liquid. Puree peas and leeks adding a little of the liquid back at a time. In saucepan melt butter, add flour and cook stirring constantly until it just turns pale gold. Add salt and pep. Beat egg yolk and cream and to this add 1 cup of the hot soup, beating steadily. Add this to the flour mixture, beating continuously. Add the lemon juice, then add the mixture to the rest of the pea soup. Mix well. Heat the soup, but don't boil. Serve sprinkled with a tiny bit of minced parsley and a tbls of the Pumpkin Seed Oil dribbled around over the top.

Mmmmmmmm

Oh, just susan,
I'm not familiar with Photoshop - I use another Adobe program - which has a sizing function built in. Sorry.

susan - irfanview.com has great free software to download - timber and the other gurus have also recommended it - very easy to use for re-sizing. Almost too easy. When I first got it - I was changing my avatar every 2 or 3 days!

Great pics, Danon. Thanks for sharing them.

Ul, haven't had a chance to look at yours yet. A2K was down for a while yesterday, apparently. I couldn't get in all afternoon. But I click first thing every morning.

Well OK Merry Andrew,
I am very happy that you enjoyed them. When you have the chance to view ul's you will see another beautiful beach and some other very interesting photos. She's a great photographer.

ehBeth,
I'm not sure if you know that Irfan is living in Vienna. I have used his program for several years now and just love it.

Danon, terrific pictures of the Florida coast and your family! thanks!

ul, thanks for sharing your vacation pics also. Love the hammock!

The moment I viewed your 'untitled' photo - recalled a book i'd read many years ago called - "Johnathan Livingston Seagull"...

http://lib.ru/RBACH/seagullengl.txt

Was so impressed with Bach's writing, created a stitchery featuring Johnathan soaring high above reeds, dunes, and the ocean. When moving from the bay area, noticed <after the movers had delivered
all the furniture, plus> the pic had somehow disappeared! Hmmm, perhaps Johnathan preferred staying oceanside instead of traveling to the mountains. Smile

justsusan, when you transfer an avatar from a free site, save to 'your pictures', then when you right click the picture - the window should say
'review' or 'preview'. click on that, and the pic will transfer to your photo-suite. Once there, check windows at the top of the page till you find "resize". A pixel window appears with the dimensions of the pic you've transfered, and there's where you change pixel sizes. Also, you can click on each pic in your photo albums and read "properties'
that tell you the size of each picture or avatar.

Sharing a quick story. Three days ago, our shelter received a beautiful hybrid/shepherd mix. Tall as a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, but with
all the markings and characteristics of the wolf <slighter build> He's quite magnificent. In a few days our wolf rescue will be taking him from our facility to permanent quarters where he'll either be adopted by an accredited person, or remain at rescue for the duration of his life.
The 'owner surrender' was another example of people believing a wild animal can somehow be domesticated. Hybreds are adorable puppies, but once matured, people find the animals not suitable for family enviornments.

He is quite a joy though - gentle and loving. We are slowly depleting our "treat" budget for the year. If one animal receives a treat - ALL the animals receive a treat...and nobody can stroll passed the kennel without giving our newest addition a bisquet or two or three or four... Smile

just susan,
Pumpkin soup

400g pumpkin
200g carrots
1 onion
2 tbs butter
1 Liter vegetable broth
1/8 l cream
1/8 Liter white wine
fresh ginger
salt, pepper, curry

- lightly brown onion( diced) in melted butter
- add pumpkin ( cut into wedges or cubes)
-add sliced carrots, stir and when hot after some minutes add wine
- add some grated fresh ginger and curry powder
- add broth, season with salt and pepper and simmer for about 20 - 30 minutes
- purée the veggies, season again to taste ( if too thick fill up with water)
add half of the cream- from the rest make whipped cream
Serve soup with whipped cream, roasted pumpkinseeds and some dops of pumkinseed oil.

Danon,
thanks for your compliment. I still have to figure out my camera- just got it.
Ft.Bragg- we pass through everytime we go to Hatteras- long walls and many barber shops.

You said it Stradee, I'm out to get a pumpkin today - if they are ripe yet.
I had the Pumpkin soup during my last visit to Bratislava - it was very good.

ul,
Thank you for the recipe!!! I have gotten the Kurbiskernol from the Central Market in Dallas, Texas. Now I know where to get it I will not run out. The brand I have is Cucina Viva and is made in and imported from Styria, Austria. Mmmmmm.....
Your recipe also reminded me that I have finished my roasted pumpkin seeds. I must get some from the Central Market.

Everyone have a great Saturday!!!

All clicked...................
