@revelette2,
I appreciate the attempt for spelling. Pity there's no grammar check button you can press. Resume play, then!

@djjd62,
Which brings to mind the old maxim:
If you can't say anything nice about someone, make up an unfunny joke with a strained metaphor.

@revelette2,
Don't agonize about lack of skill, I always understand your comments. You are certainly as skilled as anyone else posting on A2K. Everyone makes typo's and we have all skipped words. Sometimes it's because spell-check warps the words after you have correctly spelled them. Just because a few fuss-budgets are having a bad life experience doesn't mean you are obliged to follow in their miserable steps. Frankly, you are much better than most when it comes to expressing an opinion, and your research skills are very good. Don't let the invalidators convince you otherwise.

@revelette2,
Don't worry Rev. - Grammar and spelling are little surface tics that can be fixed. Count your blessings you don't have to deal with bone-deep ugliness that has no cure.

@glitterbag,
I've read revelette since she started here. She has blossomed. I mean it in as that her ability to argue, to observe or dice things up, has grown in leaps. That doesn't mean that we will never argue, or that I am any good at it. Just as obsevation.

I always want to hear you, keep talking.

I'm fractionally less cynical than you are, but that may be a mistake.

I know you weren't, but you were allowing one person you reinforce a mistaken impression you have about skill level. People like that only confirm our insecurities, that why they are invalidators. They simply refuse to ever acknowledge anyone else as a whole person because of their ingrained insecurity. In other words, they think they are lacking in many areas and to smooth that out they undercut other persons sense of self. For example, you tell your friends you were just promoted and one will say "Well, it's about time" or "how in God's name did you swing that?". They just can't stand the idea of anybody else ever enjoying their own life.

@glitterbag,
While you sit at the knee of the great psychoanalyst Gbag learning about the dread spectre-the invalidator- you may want to consider a second theory. Imagine that a bunch of assholes who don't like your political opinion - instead of poking holes in your opinion - say you're lying about it and pretending to be someone you're not. It would piss you off. They do this same thing for months, congratulating each other and resisting any thought to actually think about what they're saying.

It happens. No big tragedy.

However, when you decide you should repay the favor, you first look at their weaknesses, don't you?

When those weaknesses GLARE OUT LIKE A FLASHING NEON SIGN, you go for what you know, right?

So, you can buy the admittedly brilliant invalidator theory, or you can admit to yourself that as long as you dish it out, you better improve your ability to suck it up, cupcake.

@revelette2,
Hey I know you weren't fishing for praise. Just looking out for those that look out for me. And, if you find that you really don't want to take the incredibly hypocritical advice of a thin-skinned porcupine telling you to suck it up, you can always just remember these immortal words.... Don't let the bastards get you down!

Go for it. Only thing is, you have to be able to think of enough positive things to say about him to make whole sentences, or the thread won't thrive. Good luck with that.

I can tell when I get under Lash's papyrus-thin skin when she has to resort to mocking my (24 years and counting)recovery from alcoholism. I mean, we're talking about a real prize of a human being here, folks.
