We've now learned we cannot leave him on his perch in a room alone, he climbs down and takes a walk around the house looking for us Razz

@jcboy,
Do you have an aviary set up for Caesar?

@ehBeth,
I agree. Aviaries are quite good things. My first landscape architecture boss (I quit after three weeks re our differing conceptions of how much he was paying me), but in those three weeks I learned a bunch of things, including how neat an aviary outside the back door can be. Don't know re biggish parrots though.

@ossobuco,
Bestest aviary I've been to was at the San Diego Zoo, now a long time ago but probably still there. Er, not to give you expansive ideas.

@jcboy,
When we left our parakeet Bilie alone for a long stretch (I started school, and my mother started a part-time job), my mother came home to find Billie playing in my doll carriage. Not the most animate playmate, but better than nuttin'.

@ossobuco,
Late to edit - these aviaries were all in southern California, not Alaska.

@ehBeth,
Not yet, although his inside cage is so big you could fit four adults in it. The only time he’s in his cage is when we’re out of the house or in bed, he doesn’t like being in the cage, he has to be out with us.

If we ever did build an outside aviary it would have to be wrought iron, that’s the only thing that would keep him in.

@jcboy,
Sometimes he just repeats the same thing and other times he mumbles and you can't quite yet make out what he's trying to say Cool

@jcboy,
Wrought iron's good. I've designed a fair amount of that, including a gate with a rabbit in Santa Monica. The bunny tail was where the gate closed..
No, not a business hint, but I'll be glad to comment. Work up your own design, I know you are good at it. It might even work into an offshoot business, I say laughing.
Yes, it can rust, but there are mods to make re all that.

omg how did I miss this thread Very Happy
What a beautiful bird and so lively. I am surprised that jcboy hasn't bought him a playmate yet. Soon you all have to move out to Ojai on a farm.

@ehBeth,
He can be a handful. Kind of like having a two year old in the house. Constant adult supervision at all times. He’s bossy, he’s got an attitude and he knows what he wants it!

For instance he wanted to watch reruns of the walking dead because he knows the season premier is this Sunday. Cool

@Lordyaswas,
Get him to write a letter and see which claw he uses.

Better yet, throw him a baseball and see which claw he catches it with.

don't let that go too far

I'm sure you've talked (online at least) to some other owners of macaws already and know that they need rules and discipline. They're smart and can be trouble if not managed well.

@ehBeth,
That's kind of like adolescent kids. Thank heavens kids can't fly, huh?!
