@edgarblythe,
I'm doubting that. Either that or I'll be there with you.

Well Edgar, maybe you and Osso and me can chill in a tiny group. Unless BillRM manages to get me kicked out for calling him creepy.

I don't really understand this. When I put someone on ignore, I have no idea whether they are responding to me or someone else unless someone actually quotes them in a reply.

If their posts vanished entirely instead of merely being collapsed, I might not know they were even posting at all.

I confess that I would have been apoplectic at the thought of not being able to debunk every single untrue statement on the Amanda Knox threads back when she and Raffaele were in real jeopardy.

Luckily the case is in a good spot now. If someone says something horrible these days, I can trust Karma to take care of it.

It goes far beyond that. For reasons I've given, I think entire threads could become incomprehensible for those who are trying to follow the conversation. Even those neither blocking nor being block will suffer. Half the people might be trying to guess at what the other half is saying, and/or why they're even saying it.

I couldn't allow this to happen. There are too many unenlightened folks that believe that they are correct about things they just don't understand. It's a daily battle that I have martyred myself to. Could you imagine the turmoil these folks would go through if I was not able to lead them to the correct path? The chaos alone would bring the internet to its knees.

@oralloy,
I have never ignored someone just because they ignored me, and I never would. Why should I? It would only limit my ability to follow the course of the thread. If they want to do that to themselves, that's fine--it doesn't affect me any.

But if this blocking thing comes in, I will definitely block everyone who blocks me. There's no incentive for me not to, but there is a good reason to do it.

Half the time the "haha, I put you on ignore" routine is just bullshit anyway. A few posts later, they're still responding to you. They only ANNOUNCED the ignore business to get kudos from like-thinking posters, and, of course, to demonstrate their righteous superiority.

No reason to do that at all. If they block you, you are also blocked from them. Save a keystroke. You never know when you will need another keystroke.

Well, Rog, if that's the case, you have a good point (I don't know how it's gunna work, obviously).

But even then, they have the sole power to unblock you. I might want to block them so that I had some control over the whole ridiculous arrangement, ya know?

Then we can count on no further posts from you?

Always laugh when someone complains about complaining.

I was making the point about hairsplitting.

All these past umpteen pages of repetetive nonsense have been covered by answers by Robert in the opening half a dozen pages.

Please let him get on with it, and stop with the on and on and on....

He will "get on with it" regardless. No one's preventing that. What you're objecting to is any DISCUSSION of it. Seen that before, too.

It seems to me that some people hate the idea of blocking because they fear being excluded, of being marginalized or forgotten. Others, i suspect are irritated that those whom they would torment would be free of their hatefulness.

I also suspect that many of the people who have left over the years might have stayed if there had been a block feature.

I suspect the latter to be the most likely

Robert...this is your site and I think whatever you do...you will be doing because you suppose it is for the best. My opinion on this, however, is that I seriously doubt anyone has ever left this site truly because of the above.

I've been accused of "harassing" individuals from this site.

I have not! Nor am I egotistical enough to suppose for one second that I could do it.

With a couple of people, I have offered arguments they simply cannot refute...particularly in the area of what passes for atheism here. As a result, they've taken their ball and gone home for a while. They've left not entirely because I will not toe a party that has been established...but because they cannot do with my arguments what they do with easier prey...theists who argue from less solid positions.

If this "blocking" feature is in response to "Daddy, he's saying nah, nah, nah to me"...you have been hoodwinked. The feature itself has the potential to drive out more people than it will save from being driven out.

The problem in this forum is that the community is too small...and the dominant clique has decided that they will rule over the others.

Respectfully, you are kidding yourself here. You are enabling and strengthening the hand of the people who truly are destroying the site.

Good luck with it. I'm here and will continue to be here.

You have been harassing people for years and you are one of the causes good people leave this site..

@Frank Apisa,
Your refusal to stop badmouthing and goading people after they've asked you to is harassment, and you have run good people away from a2k.

I told you to stop bothering me after you suggested I kill myself and you refused.

I'm thankful there will be a feature here that removes you from my universe completely.
