Oh so sorry to hear the sadness down under - but spring is on its way, and pages must be turned, I suppose. Have you got some good friends there, Olga, or are you drinking alone? Except for the cat, of course.

I was just feeling liberated and planning my overseas travel when a huge amount of rain came in on my very desk, there must a slate missing from the roof or something - so immediately there you go, make God laugh by making plans... how much money is that going to swallow up, I wonder? And it is the worst summer on record.

I don't know, but it needs scaffolding to find out, since this wall of the house is on the ramparts, and beyond it the ground falls away 20 feet below the rest of the house (is that clear? I don't think so!)
Am procrastinating and hoping the rain will ease - it only happens in a particularly bad storm.

And, if all else fails, there are always buckets! It'd be a real shame to cancel the trip, though.

This trip is paid for, so secure, but I was hoping to avoid the English winter somehow, especially the desolate months of Jan, Feb and Mar. But flexibility is the virtue of choice today, so I mustn't grumble!

I thought it might be a good time to revive this thread. There are so many A2Kers here these days it's very easy to lose track of some for weeks on end. So, why not jot down a line or two are about how you are today?

Me: I'm on the first of two weeks holiday. I've just developed a cold. I'm up late: 1:10 am EST. Tonight I went out for an Indian meal with a friend. Yum! Very Happy It's cold & foggy outside, with an overnight temperature of 3 C degrees predicted. Fleecy pyjama night!

Now you! Very Happy

Isn't it so often the case that you get a cold just as you start a holiday? Bad luck Olgs, have a hot toddy of whisky and honey and lemon and a good long sleep - the curry will have helped!
It's strange how things can go wrong but you feel fine, or other days things go fine but you feel bad. Today I've got the potential bill for my roof repairs, £8800. There's water pouring in as I type. Yet I am actually in quite a cheerful mood. Odd.

Odd that Clary should post about her roof. I have a roof problem of my own, but I am lucky that I have no leaks; however, I signed a contract to let professional roofers do the job, and got presented with a form on Florida's lien law.

Here's the part that concerns me:

You may be liable if you pay your contractor and he then fails to pay his suppliers. I'm not certain exactly what to do. As yet, I haven't heard one word from the roof folks, and I am beginning to get a mite uneasy.

That is scary. It shouldn't be up to the buyer to be responsible for their debts! Weird law. Quite what responsibility does the roofer actually have then? Can you sue him for rotten work, or timelag? Good luck with it.

Well, Clary. I don't understand it myself. I'll work it out, I guess. Thanks, gal.
