Hi fellers.
I'm back home (there ain't no memorial day in this here country, and I gotta work tomorrow).
I guess the rest of the bunch are back from their visit to Madrid, & dining at Asherman's.
It was quite fun. Some of the A2Kers are just like I had imagined they'd be. The others are better than I imagined.
Now, I'm going to bed for a while. I really need to get some sleep.

Rae, Embarrassed , but you forgot to give me the speech. You know I can't ad lib.

Way to go fbaezer. You beat me home.

Well, we had a great time, and definately didn't lack for anything to eat. Asherman, BumbleBeeBoogie, and Natalie seem to be ducking the credit for hosting this one, but when everything goes this smoothly, somebody did something right. Only one surprise. Fbazer is smaller, much younger, and way less formal than expected.

Inside info: Dyslexia looks a lot like his avatar, and so does Lola.

Anyway, safe and sound in Farmington as of about 20 minutes ago.

Bed sounds like a great idea, by the way.

Rae, our last meal at Corazon was not cheese burgers. We feasted on BUFFALO BURGERS slathered with a salubrious mushroom wine sauce.

Then Roger left to drive north just as rain and a thunder storm began. Glad to hear he arrived safely home in northern New Mexico.

Dyslexia and Diane left shortly after. Dyslexia drove them to Colorado where Diane will visit family and then she will fly home to Connecticut. We packed a picnic care package for them to take in the car to help speed their long drive home.

After all were on their way, Ash, Natalie and I sat down at the kitchen table and assessed the weekend and yaked about how the Universe will probably end and how Earthlings can save and transport their accumulated knowledge when the death of our sun is eminent.

I have to tell you, I was really impressed with fbaezer. Not only is he smart, and interesting, but he's a beautiful human being with a great heart.

He had to travel so far from Mexico City to spend time with us. He should have won Asherman's painting, which was destined to be awarded to the A2Ker traveling the longest distance to the Western Gathering. But in all the excitement, Ash forgot to award it to him before he flew home.

I hope you got some sleep on the plane, fbaezer.

Dyslexia
What can I tell you about Dyslexia? It's hard to know where to start. First, he looks just like his avatar, except for the knee-high soft leather laced boots you can't see in the avatar.

Dyslexia was my greatest surprise. He's a wee bit devilish. It took me a while to learn when he was serious or teasing. He has a sense of humor that keeps you laughing. And he is very smart, worldly wise and broadly educated. But best of all, he is interesting and fun to be with.

Despite all this, he has a genuinely warm and tender heart under his cowboy hat. By the way, Dyslexia, do you take off that hat when you go to bed? What about the boots?

I hope Dyslexia had a safe drive home and that his windshield wipers worked.

Diane
Diane was everything I expected her to be, but so much more. We hit it off immediately. Not only is she beautiful, but such a warm and genuine person who captures your heart.

We talked about our families in between funny stories of events in our lives. I could have enjoyed many more hours in the company of this extraordinary woman. I'm sure we will keep in touch.

Time for some impressions:

Asherman does not look that much like his avatar. He´s lost a few pounds in his body and several grams of beard in his face. As a person, he resembles very much what you see on line: clear lines of thought, lots of background information. He was a great host, with the help of his sweet wife Natalie.
They both wanted to make sure that nothing lacked, specially food.
I mean, Natalie was always filling the bowls in an endless flow. I wonder how did Asherman manage to loose some weight.

Lola DOES look very much like her avatar. And quite younger than her admitted age. She's also younger in her heart, which is the more important thing. Her noted troubles choosing the right clothes paid off, I must say. The lady is not only smart, but classy.

Blatham did not bring, to my dismay, his mounted police uniform. But he's much like what he shows in his postings. A special sense of humor, and a consistent use of it, as a way to know things.

Roger is relatively quiet (I mean, he was the less talkative in a very talkative group), but when he spoke, like the old Spartans, he said exactly the right thing to say. And often, the right thing was very funny.

There something special about Diane. I don't know if it's her intelligence or her warmth. Or maybe it's her true openness -both in her brain and in her heart- that wins people over.

BBB is quite a character. Perhaps the person that surprised me the most. A wise, affable, kind and very lively Mother Jones. She's got this incredible energy coming from the inside, and a serene smile.

Dyslexia was the man of the party. He's very, very interesting, and it was hard for him to stop talking. A great conversationalist, some times a provocateur, with a fascinating discursive approach, and very much into Southwestern culture. Among other things, without knowing it, he explained to me a movie I had seen 30 years ago: "it's a mock version of Siddharta, set out in the West". He was kind enough to wake up at 5:00 a.m. in order to drive me to the airport.

Late night on day 1, five of us (Diane, Lola, Blatham, Dyslexia and myself) ended up in one hotel room and talked until 2:30 a.m. It was wisdom among laughter.

As for myself, I only wished I had had the chance to make the tour on day 3 (I mean, I hardly saw anything of Albuquerque), that my spoken English had been better (sometimes I found myself looking for the precise word, and not finding it) and that I had known the painting was meant for me (I thought it was for Blatham, Vancouver, being, by my guess, farther away from ABQ than old MC). BTW, Ash, was it the red painting, the one with hands pushing to different ways?
Finally, one more precision: the restaurant we went to on day 2, did not serve Mexican food, but New Mexican food. I have never seen those interesting combinations in my homeland.

fbaezer, Written prose like a pro. Thanks much for sharing your observations on the attendees; not much different from my opinions reading from the screen of all the 'characters' at this Gathering. I'm really impressed and amazed at the quality and generosity of the hosts at all the A2K Gatherings. It seems to get better with each one. Keep on trucking, A2Kers. c.i.

Thanks so much to all for sharing the details! Sounds like all who have met Diane and Lola have very similar reviews to share - wondeful people. I wish I could have been there to meet everyone else.

Ah, new mexican food, how I miss it.
